Keeping Billy Tame

Hi!

I have a couple of questions,

Billy is quite tame, only had him 2 weeks and he young (6 weeks old) but worry about him being on his own during day seeing as he is a flock bird naturally. If i get him a buddy will he stay tame or just attach himself to his new friend? Also, will they breed or only if there is a nest box? Just want whats best for my little Billy boy.

thanks :angel1:

p.s. am loving these groovy pictures :D

In my experiance..

Yes, he will change. My first bird was a young male and we spent a lot of time together, very, very tame. Once my second male was introduced it all went out the window in a matter of a month. They pay attention to each other, not you, and act more 'natural' then human-tamed. I still believe that having them together is the way to go, you just must let them do what comes naturally.

You don't need to get different sexes, two males will bond and be very happy together.

Everyone has a different experience but mine is very similar to Vippin's. I had Pretty for 9 months and he was a pet store budgie. He just started to bond with me pretty good and talk and then I introduced Merlin. It is not that he is wild but he has changed in the terms is he used to run to me he doesn't do that anymore, he completely stopped talking but will at times still mimic my whistles I do to him and taught him. He will still step up but not as readily.

2 weeks is not long enough to bond and keep the bond strong. From what I have seen those who have kept a strong bond with their budgies are those budgies that were bonded with their owner for at least 1 year. Bea and Riebe are good examples of keeping a strong bond with their first budgie.

Pretty and Merlin are both males and I only wanted males because I didn't want to worry about egg laying (which could happen even without a nesting box). They are very content with each other.

You have to decide also what you mean in terms of tame. Are my boys tame yes are they stuck to me like glue no :D.

Thanks for your input, think i will let him grow up a bit and we can bond more and see how he goes. also need to be sure he is actually a boy! don't want any eggs. maybe after a year will get another one :D have a nice day! :D
