Posted January 10, 200718 yr I've had Willie since October 21st. She's tame -- but she's a girl, so she's a little sassy, stubborn, and vain. When I reach in her cage to get her out, she'll nip at me -- not bite. She's never bitten me. And climb up on the side of the cage, make a round, and get back on her perch. When I reach for her again, she'll nip at me, and make the round again. What can I do to make her actually WANT out? Is she just playing "Haha, look, I can make you chase me around the cage"? Or does she really just want to stay in there?
January 10, 200718 yr MILLET!!!! But seriously, if you give her something she thinks is fun to do out of her cage, she'll want to do it. What better thing than to eat? Give her a treat when she comes out - something she only gets when she's out.
January 10, 200718 yr Neely, I got my bird shortly after you did, and you're not alone! Although I think mine's a male, he is doing the same routine. I've been taking him into a small room to socialize, and despite "holding out" on the millet for these occasions, he still doesn't act eager to interact w/ me (quite the opposite!). It's frustrating, but I see a wee bit of progress, overall. This week, that came in the form of him letting his guard down enough to stand on my arm or leg & tug at my clothes a little. I think we just have to be patient & keep working at it! ~~~ Kali
January 11, 200718 yr Whenever Scooter is being stubborn and doesn't want to come to me, I always use millet. He knows that the only time he gets millet is when he's sitting on me, so as soon as he sees it, he's already trying to step up without my hand even being there. :(Laughing out loud): Sometimes I think it's more of a game to them, than not actually wanting to come to you. Just keep working at it, and good luck!
January 11, 200718 yr Thanks guys. It is pretty discouraging when you love something and it doesn't seem to want anything to do with you. I get her out everyday and talk to her and try and play with her, but she doesn't seem to want to interact with me.
