Posted January 10, 200718 yr how many clutches should a hen be allowed to lay and rear in a year?? what can happen if too many clutches are completed?
January 10, 200718 yr depending on age raise max 2 clutches lay max 3 clutches if i want another clutch of a potential pair or want a hen to breed with 2 cocks i will let her have two rounds and raise the chicks with one cock bird then swap her over with another then foster the eggs but i must stress this is only done rarely exhaustion for both hen and cock
January 10, 200718 yr Two rounds only from my birds also. Three is too much. I know a show breeder that tried to get 3 rounds out of a good hen. Whe he introduced the cockbird for round 3, the hen ripped his head off and killed him. She was so stressed thinking "Oh, here we go again !" and she wanted no more clutches. I would not do that to a bird. I agree with Hath. PS. the cockbird that was killed had just cost this show breeder $580 !!
