Posted January 9, 200718 yr Blinkie's favourite thing in the world is scaring me. He's choked making me think he was going to die. He's made a huge squawky racket because Ozzie breathed in his direction. He just generally likes causing me concern. Today was no different. All the birdlets are out and when i walked into the room after going to find my drink bottle his was sitting with his leg tucked up - really tightly. For a second i thought he was just resting and then he moved and he was hopping instead of walking. I was like "oh no - he's broke his leg"! Then i went over for a closer look and he started chattering to himself (the flirty chatter male budgies do) so i thought, hmm, can't be too bad. But he was still hopping about. Then dad came over to look and Blinkie started flying back and forth between him and the cage chattering and head bopping...yeah, definitely not bothering him too much. Then he started using it a little and now he's using it pretty much like normal (probably 100% normal and i'm just being paranoid). I honestly have NO IDEA what in the world happened - i mean he's not going to be limping and hopping about for no reason. I eventually got him to stop avoiding me (ratbag) and step up and his foot seemed a little warm so i don't know if he really did do something to it. I don't think it's hurting him because he stood on the "sore" foot to scratch his head with the other. I think he just likes worrying me.
January 9, 200718 yr aww, that Blink sure knows how to press mommy's buttons... it sounds like he may have may be knicked a bit of his foot, so tiny that you can't really see it? like may be it was irritating him to have pressure on it, but because it's a tiny knick, it's okay now? I hope it's nothing major.
January 10, 200718 yr He is a naughty boy... If his foot is sore though, it could be arthritis.. How old is he and is he a bit pudgy? Happens if the birdies are too fat... Pressure on the leggies can lead to arthritis unfortunately... Though maybe he's just putting up his leg like all birds do from time to time...
January 10, 200718 yr Author He's fine today - he's almost two and a very healthy weight of 38g, not at all pudgy.
April 3, 200718 yr He seems to be a bit of a little attention seeker. My budgie always squaks when im doing home work. I wish i didnt have to do it. Just like he does!
April 3, 200718 yr maybe it just stiffened up on him like we all get stiff? Just keep an eye out as I know you will . Glad Mr. Blinks is okay.
April 7, 200718 yr I think that when birds have a foot or leg that is bothering them, they usually let it dangle, rather than tucking it up tight against them. Let's hope that since he seems fine now that he was just trying a little stunt of hopping on one foot!!
April 7, 200718 yr Author Are things alright now Blinkie? Yup!! He hasn't played any more evil stunts.
April 7, 200718 yr Do you think one of the other birds might have nipped at his foot. This happened with one of my birds - nipped toes. Nothing serious but the bird favoured it for a bit.
