January 11, 200718 yr Aww Kazza!!! I know what baby 5 is a white recessive pied. My babies both (Quin from Kirby and Belles last clutch, and BubbleGum from this clutch) were both like that. Remember? I thought maybe they were opalines, but stayd white, then around day 5-7 they got dark spots on their foreheads, and blue starting appearing near their feet, and black markings on their wings...so i'm more than 90% sure it's a recessive pied baby Kirby
January 12, 200718 yr Author Kirby I was thinking the same thing. Then its funny that the foster parents are both recessive pieds. But this baby is definitely Goliaths baby.

January 14, 200718 yr Author Today brings more dark violet feathers for baby number four. I LOVE violets
January 14, 200718 yr How many days old are babies 1, 2, 3 and 4 at the time of these pictures... Really interested to know this.
January 14, 200718 yr Author How many days old are babies 1, 2, 3 and 4 at the time of these pictures... Really interested to know this. Golly was born on the 18th December, baby 2 on the 20th, baby 3 on the 22nd, baby four 24th and baby 5 was born on the 31st . There were 3 eggs that were no good.
January 14, 200718 yr Author Baby number 3 Baby four Baby 5 in Sadie's box is colouring up now too. It has some darker feathers on its back and has the dominant pied spot or patch on the back of its head....the largest baby in this nest is baby 5 and a solution to a very hot day. I replaced the nesting box sliding lids for mesh for the day as babies were very hot. Their other nestbox lids go back on at dusk along with fresh clean bedding. January 14, 200718 yr Great idea as it is so hot here today... does Mum mind? Baby 4 is a sweetie too!
January 14, 200718 yr Author Great idea as it is so hot here today... does Mum mind? Baby 4 is a sweetie too! Parents dont mind, as when the babies get to this size they hardly ever get into the box with them and definitely not on a hot day. Babies get fed at the nestbox entry hole.
January 14, 200718 yr Author nice improvising there They all look great. Yes ...all big and healthy. Here is baby number 5 just for you. Recessive or dominant ? I think we have another dominant pied baby and with adopted siblings (baby 5 at rear left ) Edited January 14, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 15, 200718 yr Author Looks like dominant with that big round clear head spot. Good thats what I thought too. So, the end result from Candy and Goliath would be 3 dominant pieds, one opaline spangle and a violet normal. Two birds worth putting together again. Candy isnt all that large but the chicks produced are excellent for size. Beautiful result
January 15, 200718 yr Author Baby number one (GOLLY) at 4-5 weeks Baby two (female I think) Baby number three Baby four Baby five (rear left ) Babies 1,2,3 and 4 bite like mad, so looks like females. Edited January 15, 200718 yr by Bubbles
January 15, 200718 yr Wow they are all gorgeous baby Golly looks like she has a blue cape on her and Baby #3 is just GORGEOUS.
January 15, 200718 yr Kaz, because goliath's an opaline, and opaline is sex linked, all females will be opalines, and all male babies will be split to opaline. So baby two and four (and possibly five depending on colouring) are boys, and baby one and three (opalines) are girls.

Will probably keep all of Goliaths babies
