My Babies New House

Hi there,

I have been working with 3 - 4 cages of late, as my big cage could only comfortably hold up to six birds. I also had other birds in various different stages of quarantine or new flock birds. So looking around on ebay I came across a cage, which normally sells on ebay for $200.00 plus postage. The woman who bought it figured it wasn't what she wanted so she onsold it to me for $100.00 and I gave my brother $50.00 petrol money to pick it up. So I saved over $100.00 on it.

The new cage had a red peaked roof on it, so that it could be used outside, but as I wanted it inside I didn't put the roof on. Instead I coved the top with aviary mesh, so I could hang stuf from it. It works great and the birds seem to be very happy with it.

Now both cages can have 5 birds in each..

This is my original big cage.

OMG that is fantastic!! I love it :D I have been looking at one the same as your original! What are you going to do with it?? :P

I am keeping it, Riebe, I have got 5 budgies in each of those cages. :P

hey that's a great idea with the top of cage.. it's better to have mesh up there ofr hanging toys purposes!!

Great looking cages. :P

Yep, Cheeta. Even if I had wanted to keep the roof on I probably would have done the same thing. Put on a layer of mesh before adding the roof. The cages are so much more useful being able to hang swings, toys, etc. No way of hanging things may even have been a reason the previous owner didn't want it.

That's a nice setup!

I have a cage that is "gabled" on top, so I know what you mean re: the difficulty hanging things. That's cool you were able to modify it. I have just one crossbar on each slope of the roof I can hang things from, plus the top/center rail. It's kind of a bummer, but I guess I'll know what to look for next time!

I never thought of looking on eBay for cages -- that's a good idea. I almost wish now that I'd have thought more seriously about buying a "huge" cage (in an ugly color!) :P that I saw on sale when we were buying this one. At the time, I was thinking, "that'd be perfect if I was getting a conure or something". Now I can see there might've been other uses!

Congrats!

They certainly seem to be enjoying themselves, Birdluv, and they do get spoilt often.

Kali, I thought the roof on this one was really ugly (forest green with an orangey red??) ... but I am so glad I got this cage. I ever I put the roof on it, I will paint it first.
