Posted January 6, 200718 yr Had Holly out the other day and Dad got out the digital camera and managed to get some good shots of him...I say him, cere is still pretty much the same colour as when I got him, but he does the male head bob and flirt with inanimate objects routine pretty well, plus his poor little green and yellow jingly ball has been getting humped like no man's (or no budgie's) business for the last week or so, so I'm still referring to him as a he. This place looks interesting. Ooh a hand! Posing is fun He's up against my cheek here but I had no make up on and greasy hair so I spared you the horror! The budgie football tournament was in full swing, with Holly out on the wing... What do I do with the ball once I've got it? And the cutest picture of them all :bluebudgie: Any comments on Holly's cere colour/gender are welcomed, though as I said at the top of my post, he definitely acts like a boy! Oh, and I think the greeny patches on him were caused by the flash...he is completely white with red eyes in real life I promise :dbb1:
January 6, 200718 yr Well, I am no expert, but Holly looks like a female to me, going by the last 2 photos. It looks very white around her nostrils. Albinos do have a 'sheen' to them, so it isn't the camera making it up, it is Holly's actual colour. Edited January 6, 200718 yr by feathers
January 6, 200718 yr Holly is cute. I would have thought female with that coloured cere, but hens are not known to love their ball/toys that much
January 15, 200718 yr I will be different and say male I say that because a few of those pictures the cere looks very purply and Pretty who is a male recessive pied had some great nasel rings too when he was younger and he loves his balls too . Time will tell though. Either way Holly is very pretty.
January 15, 200718 yr Author Woohoo I'm not going crazy! Thank you Lovey, I thought of Pretty when I've been examining Holly's cere...the close up photos of Holly really don't reflect what his cere looks like in real life...there is a lighter area around each nostril, but it doesn't look anywhere near as white as it does in the last picture. Most of the cere is a pinky purple colour...and the poor jingly ball is still getting humped to within an inch of its life. I think unless I come back and find an egg in that cage, I'll treat him as a boy!!
January 15, 200718 yr Your welcome (Laughing out loud) here is Pretty's cere this is when he was younger the last picture shows the nasel rings better so if that is comparable to Pretty then I would say boy. Now here it is now you can still see slight nasal rings
January 16, 200718 yr Kestrel, Whether "he's" male or female, he's really cute! I love that sheen, even if it *is* camera-induced! (The cheek patches look cool, too!) I'm jealous of the nice, long tailfeathers...we lost several here & it's a long wait for the new ones to come in! Lovey, I think I can see where Pretty got his name!!! ~~~ Kali
