My Baby Budgies Vocalizations. What Do They Mean?

Hi all,

I just got my new baby budgie rogue 2 days ago. He is white with splatterings of black. He is around 4 weeks old and eats & drinks by himself. He is not scared of me at all he sits and naps in my hand while making clicking sounds. He even sits on my shoulder but i have to watch him as his balance needs some work (Laughing out loud). I have a question...he makes this sound its kind of like a spray bottle like one you would use to spray water over plants (or your budgies on a hot day (Laughing out loud) ) its not very loud and he just does it randomly whilst hes chilling out on my bed. he doesnt seem scared i just would like to no what this means?

thanks to anyone who replies.

Hm. It sounds like a sneeze, does it seem like that? Do you ever hear any noises while he's breathing (clicking with each breath, for example)? Four weeks is awfully young for a budgie to be sold, it would be a good idea to monitor his weight.

A sneeze is what I thought of as well. Although it's a bit softer than what I've heard mine do (unless I have a quieter spray bottle :bluebudgie: )

Can you tell us if your got Rouge from a breeder or a pet shop? At four weeks my babies are only just venturing from the nest box (some don't come out to explore until five weeks) They are still being feed from dad as well, which is why Eterri said to watch he weight.

Is he eating seed at all?

firstly thanks for both your responses. I did get him from a breeder. That is what i was concerned about also his eating habits and weight. However i have tried and perseverd with hand feeding him water and egg biscuit and he refuses to take it so i just decided to offer him seed mix. I know with baby budgies that you have to watch and see if they are actually eating the mix at first i wasnt sure as i thought maybe he was just playin with the seed but after about 15 minutes i could see the seed husks accumulate all around him! he has attempted to fly a few times so maybe he could be older than what i was told. i do know he is young still having fully black eyes and the black stripes on his face. i do think it is a sneeze because yesterday when he was drinking/playing in a shallow dish of water he did it a couple of times. he likes to nap alot at he moment of me typing this post he is napping on my lap wrapped in my t shirt (Laughing out loud). i do worry about him starving or not eating enough but he doesmt shriek or sook for food--i know budgies often don't show signs of illness or pain etc until its to late but he wont take the egg biscuit formula and he munches down seeds. thankls to any who offers their opinion and thoughts :D

ps.

he does make clicking/grinding noises but not with each breath. its not a frequent thing if that is what you mean. i've heard this means he's content and or tierd.

Could you take him back to the breeder to see if he's looking for a feed from his parents? Otherwise, feel his crop during the day (especially at night before bed) and make sure that it's full of seed. It should be a pretty hard little lump if he's eating correctly. 4wks does seem rather young to sell a baby.

And yes, do indeed get a gram kitchen scale for weighing him... They're so invaluable. Especially keeping track of his weight throughout his life... It'll help you determine when he's possibly getting sick. Look at it also as an investment in his future health...
