Putting a Rabbit in an Aviary

Featured Replies

Please could you tell me if Rabbits can pass any bugs on to Budgies and vice versa.

We are building an aviary for my son Jonathan (Jack and Ben) and my daughter wants a Rabbit. We have bought a 6ft by 4ft shed to use as the budgies roost area and thought that i could put a rabbit in the part we intend to close off for my son to keep all the seed etc for the birds in and train it to go through a flap to get into the flight area. then my children get the best of both worlds with their pets.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Angel :( :bluebudgie: :D

Thanks for that link it seems that the budgies will annoy the Rabbit so maybe i should not consider putting them together in the aviary but only keep the rabbit in the shed/roost and put it in a run for it's exersise. :bluebudgie: :(

I wonder if you have a zoo you could contact or a farm where visitors can go because they often have a childrens' corner and may have some advice for you if they've ever kept or tried to keep rabbits and budgies together?

thats a good idea julie,

i was just at the following website

http://www.myerscough.ac.uk/animal/petshop/rabbit.asp

which said the following:

Sleeping Habits - Rabbits are most active in the morning and at night; they generally sleep during the day.

so i am thinking that because budgies are so noisy during the day and sleepy at night that during the day the budgies would annoy the rabbit and at night the rabbit would annoy the budgies.

awwww and i was so excited by the idea of having both when i build my very own aviary.

i'm sue that if you got the budgies and a baby rabbit at the samw time they would grow up not knowing any different. my sister has a house rabbit and a budgie and they get on fine. Her house rabbit sleeps at night because that is what it has become used to.

I reckon you should get a baby rabbit and introduce it to the aviary at the same time as the birds. I'm sure you'll have no problems.

Or just put some wire around part of the bottom for the rabbit to hope about in them you will not have to worry about bird trying to laid on it or peck at the rabbit. :) I don't know but It's an Idea to think over.

The niose shouldn't be a big problem budgies seem to be able to nap right next to another that is singing at the top of their lungs.
