Posted December 30, 200618 yr Has anyone every seen their budgies hovering? :budgiedance: My little Venus, a normal violet hen, was hovering in place in the middle of her cage tonight. I thought only hummingbirds hovered. Is this wierd or what? Shell
December 30, 200618 yr :budgiedance: Thought I was the one with weird budgies, have never observed it in mine over the years. But like people, birds are different too, and it isn't harmful, so cool!
December 30, 200618 yr A few of mine do that. Seems to be a part of exercise and wing flapping Mostly it's the budgie dads in the breeder cages doing it when they are bored when the hen is in the nest. Edited December 30, 200618 yr by Bubbles
December 30, 200618 yr None of our budgies 'hover' but a little bird we found ( and will be realeasing soon) 'hovers' in front off glass and when it feels it neads to 'go' Edited December 30, 200618 yr by bugie-girl
December 30, 200618 yr A Few of mine do the 'hovering' thing. Especially a couple of my younger budgies. I was watching them last night and was really amazed at how a couple of mine could fly so well, and 'hover' or change direction so easily to get where they wanted to go. Whereas with some others it is like, "oh damn' there's a wall there, what shoud I dooo" [splat] "nevermind". Feathers Edited December 30, 200618 yr by feathers

December 30, 200618 yr Psyche hovers a lot. She's taken to doing it when she wants to come out of her cage. She did it a bunch before we were able to let them out at all. I always figured it was exercise.
December 30, 200618 yr Exersise? my birds dont understand the word! Edited December 30, 200618 yr by bugie-girl
December 30, 200618 yr Wow!! I had never heard of hovering budgies till now. That's amazing that some of yours do it too. My older boy just launches himself in a direction and doesn't seem to know how to turn at all! (Laughing out loud) Shell
December 30, 200618 yr Milly used to do that before I got her a bigger cage and started letting her out more. Most of the time she'll be gripping the perch though. I agree, it's for the extra exercise. My old budgie, Nibbler, was my blue hummingbird He used to hover around the walls trying to figure out how to land on it! Whereas Squee just picks a direction and flaps her wings at it, still holding the perch, until she gets enough lift to go there, then she just jumps :(Laughing out loud):
December 30, 200618 yr Lots of budgies hover for their exercise its so cute, and i had alot of babys for sale and they would line up and take it in turns to hover in the middle of the cage because they knew if they didnt they would end up on the floor, Sco-tie
