My First Budgie Hatched In 26 Years

Featured Replies

Hiya , well as you know I have had a 26 year rest from breeding budgies . I started up again now that I have time and my children are older . My first hen laid 4 eggs , 1 infertile , 2 dead in shell and one died while breaking open the egg , I can only assume the poor little thing got too tired . Anyway , I have a SF spangle cock which paired with a DF Spangle hen , she laid 4 eggs , not all have chicks , but I am pleased to say , the first egg hatched yesterday on Christmas day , my daughters named him / her Tinsel , so lets wish her all the best . I have taken a few photographs today but I'm afraid to say they are all very blurry , I will take better ones has Tinsel grows :)

Take care

:) What a lovely Christmas gift for you! :)

now that is one gift I wouldn't return :)

Love the name. Do you know how many more eggs will hatch?

Nodders, great timing for the bub to hatch... I will certainly wish her luck, especially as she was given such a fitting name. I love the look of Mum.

Just a thought, re the photos... when you are so close you may need to put your camera onto a macro setting (normally shown as a flower)

Thanks for sharing her with us.

Feathers

Hiya ,

by the looks of the eggs another 2 are fertile but the next is overdue atm . Also , yes I do have the camera on macro but the light is terrible , I got my daughter to hold up a light and it seems to have improved the pics . Here are the latest pics of Tinsel and mum :D

Enjoy :hap:

Very cute, how do you go over there with the cold? Do you have to do anything special for the bubs or are they in a warm birdroom?

Mum is very pretty, what colour is dad?

Oh Tinsel is precious, they are so naked and fragile looking when they are born. Mum certainly is adorable :P

Hiya , yes it can get cold , I've had a word with 3 or 4 breeders in my area and none of them actually use any form of heating . Personally I have an electrician coming early in the new year to set electrics up for me , atm I have a tubular heater that I have on for a few hours each night just running from an extension , it does'nt really warm the place up , it just knocks the bite out of the air .

Dad can be seen in this thread , he is the spangle 4th picture down

Also I am now positive Tinsel will be a single hatching , the other eggs are a no go . Nevermind , hopefully he / she will get lots of attention .

wow- just had a look, you have some real nice birds there.
