Posted December 26, 200618 yr Here are two birds. guest their ages Bird A Bird B No they are not related. Edited December 26, 200618 yr by daz
December 26, 200618 yr Bird A: is under 3months of age and hasn't had its first molt so the barrings are still present so i would say around 2 months 6-9weeks and Bird B: is even younger all though the barring is more recieded the beak and cear colours suggest that it is very young possibly not fledged so i would say 3-6weeks. none are adults because the barrings and cear are not fully developed. hope to find out the true answer, Sco-tie
December 26, 200618 yr My guess would be: Bird A: 6 - 12 weeks, head bars still present & Bird B: 3 to 4 weeks, still in nest. Babe still has that cute baby black beak. ???How did I do? :glare:
December 26, 200618 yr Author umm very interesting answers. I'll let some more people try before answering. Any thoughts on gender?
December 26, 200618 yr Great post and I will take a stab at it. I think they are the same age (Laughing out loud) around 5-6 weeks old. The bottom one is throwing me off because his throat spots are rounder then usual baby ones but the head bars and the back beak indicate baby. Plus he looks like he has been dining on carrots or a veggie of some sort :glare:. as for gender not sure but I will simply guess, the 1st one I can't see very well looks boy but could be girl and the B. I would say male.
December 26, 200618 yr i would say both babys are males. can't wait to find out the true answers, Sco-tie
December 26, 200618 yr Author Plus he looks like he has been dining on carrots or a veggie of some sort . Yes they get their carrots and greens.
December 27, 200618 yr Author okay Bird A is 39 days old and what I would expect from a normal at this age. A Young Cock Bird B is 26 days old. The features on the head is what I find amaising. I haven't seen a normal with hardly any baring. This is what I would expect with a Spangle or Opaline but not a normal. Going into show aspects, the width of head and depth of mask is nice and also the spots at this age. A very nice Young Cock. Edited December 27, 200618 yr by daz
December 27, 200618 yr so I estimated them too old but good to know thank you Daz. Now on with the barring you know Merlin's barring was very light too. Now he is a dominant pied but that is certainly very close to a normal and I figured he would have dark barring but it was light like yours. See the picture and this was with no flash so it wasn't washed out.
December 27, 200618 yr Author There you go, all my chicks to date have had baring, except for the opalines and spangles. There is always something new and exciting in this hobbie. Thanks Lovey.
December 27, 200618 yr Your welcome and I agree , I love the quizzes if you can think of more would love to have more to learn
December 28, 200618 yr Damn I missed it- was reading through thinking about them then.....the answer. Top one is a spitting image of my boys- I would have said about 32-34 days for the top and about 21 for the bottom both definate males. Mine have the black beak and cere for quite sometime too. (also very light barring) picture 28 days picture 33 days
December 28, 200618 yr Wow, what a cutie, especially the first picture where he is all ruffled up, he looks much more comfortable in the second picture
