Thanks everyone!!!

I have to take Bubblge Gum (white pied) to vet :glare: Her beak is very messed up :ausb: Instead of the top beak curving down, it is kinda pointy, and she had some food that got stuck on it. So over time it got moulded in. It has now fallen off, so shes got a huge gash in it (its visible in some pics above). So i feel it is right to bring her to a vet for checkup and get her beak sanded into shape...Shes starting to fledge now, and i watched her for a good 5 minutes yesterday trying to husk seeds..she cant :budgiedance: So timing is critcle! I get home on Dec 31st...so thats 6 days. She has not left the nest yet, but she will any day now...so im scared if when i get hom eBelle kicks her out of nest (becuse i saw them mating again :D Which im not letting them have more babies, that will be 3rd clutch, to many for them to handle in a row)...So, hoepfully when i get home in 6 days, shell still be accepted in the nest, i can get her beak sanded, then get her home to start practising eating before her parents kick her out of the nest which is any day :( I will keep you all posted!!! I hope it turns out for the good! :D (Laughing out loud)

Kirby

I hope it all goes well for Bubble Gum. How are all the rest going?

I am still at my dads house. I get home December 31st at 11:20am becuase my moms WHOLE family is taking a family picture :D So, ill book appointment ASAP when i get home...then get him looked at. Good thing is i got $$$ for xmas so i will use that towards him. I also thought of keeping him, and my mom even mentioned doing that :hap: but im not sure. Id LOVE to...but with Diego (new tiel) im getting i dont want to have 2 very tame attention seekers in 1 house. As my other budgies arent really tame, so they do their thing, but with a special needs handfed baby, and a newly weaned cockatiel baby in the house, thats just to much...Well see though, i will keep him if he cant eat even after a beak trim, as ill feed him Zupreem pellets, and such...but if it works out great like i know it will (getting his beak sanded) ill sell him to a good home. :)

Hey everyone!!!

Here are new pics taken today! :) Sadly..NONE of them are sold :( No ones getting back to me, and the people that were interested (the one guy wanted one for a looong time, but ditched them for a english budgie baby, and theo ther people that wanted one, apparently said i booked an appoinment for them to come and see the babies which i did NOT, so they came and no one was home..i e-mailed them a few days ago, but did not get a repsonse...so im not sure what happening there :( ) Anyways, here are the new piccies!!!

Kirby :)

Try not to worry too much about Bubblegum. I have had two babies like that. It happens when food gets stuck to the inside of the top beak and heat builds up. The heat stops the top beak from forming properly and as a result the bottom beak grows outside of the top beak while the top beak doesnt grow at the correct rate. The bottom beak will grow much faster than normal and you will have to keep getting it trimmed back. It will be ongoing. However, I have kept a grey budgie that has this problem. He still manages to eat well, and has grown to a very decent size in comparison to all the others. He is young (around 5 months) and is a real Romeo with all the girls. I catch him every 2 weeks and trim his lower beak. You may wish to have that done at the vets...as it is safer for you. It will be ongoing as I said. The lower beak will grow about quarter of an inch every fortnight or so and need constant trimming. It's just the way this problem works. There is a very real need to check babies in nests for this potential problem. Unless it happens to you ( like now ) it isn't a thing you think of checking for. But you must open the babies beaks (around 7 days or so onwards ) and check for food build up in the top beak. I usually quickly pick it out with the quill end of a feather and pop baby back.

I hope this has been helpful to you.

Cheers karen

Wow thanks Kazza!!! :P Thats great advice!!!

IVE GOT GREAT NEWS!!! :) :hap: :P Bubble Gums eating!!! He can hull husks by himself, and eats quite a lot!!! :) WHIPEEE!!! (Laughing out loud). Im soooo excited! So hes fine! He plays well, eats very well, and is very healthy! In fact, his crop was the biggest out of the babies!!! Isnt that great!!! :D So, im very happy for him! I think im going to NOT go to get it trimmed. Like you said, ill have to keep getting it trimmed, if i do it once. But hes able to eat, and play, which i did Not think he was able to do before. Kazza, can i see a few pics of your males beak? The one you said is kinda like Bubble Gums beak? That would be even better! (Laughing out loud). Thanks matey!

NOTE: If i do see his health declining, i will DEFINATELY get it trimmed. I just think for the itme being, i will wait and see how it does. Even if i dont get it trimmed, so i just leave it, even the lowerbeak? Or either way am i going to have to trim it? My mom really wants to keep him :P So i think we will! Oh, and i think its a female, nto a male, so change all those 'hes' i said above to 'shes' (Laughing out loud)...

I will try and get you photos tomorrow. But also you have slightly misunderstood my meaning. The bottom beak will continue to grow longer all the time. It works that way for these birds. You will have to keep getting the lower beak trimmed. It isnt just if you do it once. It is the way it grows. Sorry, but it looks like an extra expense in the longterm for this little one. :P

Oh okay...i had a feeling i was going to miss interperate that one :P

I do my budgies beak myself as it is easy to see where it should be compared to the new growth. But, a vet would be best for you as things can go wrong. I just clip it back with nail clippers as the new growth is softer. Do not follow my lead, as I have veterinary training. :)

But dont worry too much about him/ her eating. My boy BRUISER is a big budgie and eats very well, anyway he can.

Yes he eats fine, im just worried about the vet thing now :( Not worried but just wodering the cost. Where exactly to your trim? I was thinkig if a vet sanded down her upper beak, into shape, it would grow properly, and i wouldnt need to get the lower one trimmed..just sand the upper one into shape with the vet? Illl see whats the best option. Thanks agaian Kazza, i never knew you had a bird like Bubble Gum's case...yor so helpful! :(
