:ausb: Hello flyer, I cannot help you out with the breeding issues, you will have to wait until a breeder logs on. Please don't use shortcuts like "cuz" and "u" as per the forum rules, this is an international forum and we have some people for whom English is not their first language so please post all your words full length, thanks! :ygbudgie:

Hi Flyer just a few things I need to know

  1. How old are the birds.
  2. What type are the birds? Photos would be good.
  3. How long have you had them.

You see they need to be 12 months or older before you try to breed them.

If the male is a recessive pied his cere will be pink and not blue.

If you have had them for 4 years the hen is too old to breed.

It sounds like inexperienced mating but that doesn't mean they are to young either.

Afterr you type your posts before submitting them you can do a spell check on them the button is above the box you are typing in and has a ABC with a tick below it.

Enjoy the forums :ausb:

okay sorry about the shortcuts and yeah the male is green and the female is white and they are around 10-12 months old both of them and i have had them for about 5 months now and the male cere is almost blue but the thing is the female doesnèt have brown cere i have heard it is always have to be brown thats what my question is.

it doesn't have to be brown budgie will breed at any time once they are given a place to do so. Which you did when adding the box. When the cere is brown it means the bird is in the best spot of their fertile cicle.

I think both your budgies are still too young and that is why the trouble. When you introduced your male budgie around August 29th he looked no older than a 10-12 week old as his baby bars came almost down to his cere. If that is correct, then his age now would be around 7 months maximum :budgiedance:

when i got them the breeders told me they were abt 6 months old and i have had my other budgies breed at the same age they had no problem but they flew away after laying eggs so i baught new once and the other question was that can the other female be a problem in the cage....

Wow, slow down :D Running sentences give me headaches :budgiedance:

A bird that's young is still growing itself, so to divert the energy going into growing it's own body to breeding would be very bad for the bird. Take a human of, lets say, 12 years of age. He or she could be physically capable of having a child, but imagine the toll on the child having to help grow a child inside them while still growing themselves! Not to mention how they would handle raising the child afterwards.

So may I suggest what I plan to do when I get my first budgies: I don't intend to breed straight away, I plan on taking care of a number of budgies for a number of their ENTIRE life spans before I even consider breeding. This way I have hands on experience in taking care of the birds throughout their entire lives before I bring new ones into the world.

In any case, it seems the overall consensus is that at least 12 months is probably the earliest you'd want to breed budgies, and even then you're pushing it for the budgie to be physically developed enough. Hope this helps you in your decisions.

Hello flyer, welcome.

Your birds are too young to responsibly breed, in my opinion. Yes they can physically breed, but they are not finished developing either physically or emotionally. If your hen still has a white/blue cere, she has not entered breeding condition yet. Breeding condition entails more than just having a brown cere, even though the brown cere denotes the proper hormones are being produced. Budgies will "play" at being parents long before they are ready to become one. They will feed each other, and practice mating as young as 4 or 5 months of age. It is normal for an inexperienced male to fall off. Sometimes they just dance on the female's back and don't even try to mate. They don't know what to do.

An extra female in the breeding cage will be a huge problem. I think your best course of action now would be to remove any nest box(es) you may have set up, and remove anything that could be remotely construed as a nesting site from the cage. If you are correct about their ages and they are about 10 months old, I would make sure you get them converted to a varied diet in the next few months. Next fall if you are still interested in breeding, then you can try to add a nest box. They will then be over a year and a half of age, and be in better shape nutritionally to withstand the rigors of raising a family. I don't remember seeing any pictures of your birds, but I will look. Would you mind posting some recent photos of your birds? Not only do we really just love to look at everyone's budgies, :D , but I would be able to better give you an indication of their ages since there seems to be some confusion. We could also give you some ideas about what to expect to appear in the nestbox when they do breed. That is exciting too - the guessing! :budgiedance:

What happened before that your birds flew away after laying eggs? That is highly unusual...

Hi Flyer,

I have budgies that are about the same age as yours. I have decided that mine are "randy teenagers" There is one male in particular that like to get on top of a female. He really doesn't know what he is doing though. Two of my hens have chocolate brown ceres, but they are too young to be allowed to beed yet, so I haven't put in any nestboxes.

I think green chilli is like my bird that keeps 'acting it out'. When he is with one female, another one comes over and almost acts jealous. They are all just playing because they are way too young and not ready to start a family.

Hope this helps.

k thanks everyone i will remove the nest box and last time i took pictures with webcam and they were not very clear so anyways i wonèt let them breed thanksss.

but lets say if the doo lay eggs even if i remove the nestbox like on the cage floor or something then what do i doo throw away the eggs or bring back the nestbox and i have moved on of the hens to another cage.

I would throw the eggs out. It's best for the pair of them at this stage.
