Recessive Pied, Or - ?

Featured Replies

No problem :ausb:, I was curious that is all your thoughts for sure. by the way that is a gorgeous recessive pied pictured.

I love the yellowface type 2 on them :glare:.

Sorry I couldn't get those other pics to work - however I have now figured out how to do it, so take a look at the pics above and it should explain it better...

Thanks Andrea

Umm with the white cheek patches, I have dom pied with white cheek patches as well, so that doesn't mean that a bird with white cheek patches are recessive pied. yes given that most of my recessive pieds have white cheek patches, some with blue through. One of my dom pied have a blue cheek patch, and a white cheek patch. :glare:

In response to the marking on the wings... I have seen double factor dom pied with markings on the shoulder of the wings... well a little of it anyway. so I do believe that that is possible.

Yes Cheeta your are right about the patches on the shoulders I have seen it too in fact if you click here and click on dominant pied and look on the right you will see a df dominant pied :glare:.

yes, that yellow DF dom pied would look like Kali's bird only that's a yellow base birds instead of a white base birds. soooo just paint Kali's bird green and yellow, you'll have the same bird!! (Laughing out loud)

I am going with Double Factor Yellowface type 2 Skyblue Pied :glare:

First, thank you ALL for your feedback! :)

Cheeta, thanks for saying how sweet he looked. And, for thinking some of my pics were okay. It's definitely touch-and-go w/ this camera! That would be unique if he wound up with only one iris ring -- I've never seen that! Here is a closeup of his left eye:

You can see there is a faint iris ring evident already. I'm not sure how this compares to the other side, though!

Daz, I'm curious re: what about that one photo (w/ the wooden fruits hanging off to his left) made you switch your call to female. Something about "his" overall body shape, or his cere? Here's a closeup of the cere (taken from that same photo), in case it proves helpful:

Andrea, thank you also for complimenting my little guy! :P I am curious to see how his colors & markings will change after he molts. I am noticing more neon yellow on his tailfeathers, but just changed his cage location slightly (more natural light).

Regarding his cere, it's funny how it appears so blue in some photos. In person, it fluctuates between bluish, purplish, and pink! This image is very blurry, but was taken in natural light, and gives you an idea of the pink I'm seeing:

His feet definitely do look pink, as you described on one of your birds. As to the breeding question, I didn't have that in mind, though it might be a consideration if I felt I knew what I was doing (which I currently do NOT!)!

Also, do any of your votes negate the possibility of him having some type of dilute gene? His barring & wing markings seem more grayish than black.

Thanks again!

grr I did I have a long story to post here explaining all the info, until my computer chose to remove it on me :P

You have a yellow face type two Dominant Pied Clearwing. It is highly possible that he is a Double Factor because he has all the signs such as small amount of colour and small markings on the wings. I say Clearwing but he could be a dilute as well. Clearwings do not have pale body colours and dilutes do.

the cere should start to change to a deep blue around now and for a few months. With each molt the yellow will get stronger on the body.

He might end up looking something like This:

Nerwen,

Thanks for attempting to post such a long, detailed explanation for me -- I'm just sorry your computer decided to eat it!

I am seeing some subtle changes in his appearance this past week. I had thought his cere was looking more bluish, but this morning it's back to pink again. Agh! So, I have no idea what's happening there.

The other thing I see is that the markings on his wings seem to have spread out a bit and "blurred" slightly. (This may be a genuine change, OR just a change in my perception!) I notice more of a scalloped-type pattern, or "C" shape, on the tips of his feathers. It's interesting to watch!

I loved visiting your website and seeing your photos (hope that's okay to say here!).

It's also fun seeing the discussion on other new budgies! I'm totally understanding how it's possible to acquire some type of "flock"!

Thanks again,

~~~ Kali
