Do Budgies Grow Out Of Wanting To Chew On Everything?

Featured Replies

Scooter is going through his first molt and he tends to want to chew on everything all the time now. I know budgies are chewers, but it seems that since he's started molting, he chews alot more, including me (Laughing out loud). It's not biting cause he's bitten me before, and there's a big difference. He just likes to chew on my fingers when he's sitting on me. He didn't use to do that until he began molting. Is this part of molting behavior? Or is it just something young budgies tend to do that he may grow out of?

 Based on my own experience, Scooter should grow out of his chewing behaviour at some point, is he using his cuttlebone to pare down his beak? Let's see what everybody else says. :greenb:

Yes, he has been using his cuttlebone. He usually uses it at least once a day from what I've seen.

All my budgies chew, and they chew alot.. mind you, I stick in fresh bottlebrush branches when they just LOVE!! they don't chew on my though. They still chew my curtains and put little tiny specks of holes in them.

Paris loves to gnaw on me. :hap: He didn't so much as a baby but as he got older, he became more interested in me as a chew toy. I guess it depends on the budgie, but most of mine love to chew and shred things.

Here's a video of Paris chowing down.

 In contrast to my budgies, my two lovebirds are mad chewers and shredders, especially Phoebe. :greenb:
