Posted December 18, 200618 yr This is McDreamy. My beautiful boy. But as you can see he has a very very wide stance on the perch. While he is obviously healthy, and full of energy he seems to have trouble landing and hovers above the perch for awhile before attempting to land which is often messy and he sometimes has to falls and has to try again. Is there seomthing wrong with my bird? Is he going to be okay? And do you think he is capable of being a breeding bird when he is older? Please help Meg
December 18, 200618 yr He seems to be favouring his right foot. Has he always been like this? I presume he has all his toes (we can only see the front ones). As for breeding, physically he is probably okay, but it would depend on if he is able to get onto the hen's back and balance while doing the deed. Feathers
December 18, 200618 yr I'm no expert, but it looks like his legs are slightly splayed!? This is a result of his mum sitting on him (brothers and sisters??) too tight, this then causes his legs to grow out side ways. In some cases birds are unable to perch or stand at all. If it is splayed legs its probably too late to be corrected, it can be done when they are still in the nest. As for breeding, time will tell if he can balance well enough on the hen.
December 18, 200618 yr Author Thanks guys. He does have all his toes that was the first thing i checked too. I'll keep a close eye on him and see what happens. Oh he is a new bird. So I didn't have the chance to correct it when he was younger. But as long as he is healthy and can be happy thats whats important.
