Millet Spray

When i leave millet hangin the cage, they normally make a huge mess all over the table and floor. And they always seem to pull it down when the spray isn't finished. Where is the best spot to put millet to avoid this? Also they both never wanna venture to the bottom of the cage, no matter wat. As i was thinking of putting the millet down there but they never go down to get any of it.

Hi Kevin,

Budgies like to stay up high as that is where they feel safest, but if you make the lower parts of the cage interesting enough they will go down there. I have my seed trays down low in the cage and I always put their vegetable bowl on the bottom. There is nothing wrong with putting the millet on the bottom, just make sure it in not under perches so it doesn't get fouled.

just a note you should not have millet in their cage daily only about 1x a week for a treat. I notice you only have 2 like I do and I only give them millet from my hand as a treat. Millet is a hard one to keep clean (Laughing out loud) seed guards can help and the suggestions above :grbud:

Aw Right, I was giving them Millet once every few days. At least this will cut the mess down, and they hav started to venture to the bottom of the cage as i added a letter, which tweety loves as she keeps going on it.

The taming is going back and forth, one day good bit of progress is made and the next day they dont wanna know. I think when i hav got them into separate parts of the cage, training when better. I was going to try and bring them outta the cage and try and train them outside like i did my last one which proved well, but i'll wait till i gain more of their trust.

Hi!

I also give them millet hanging it up. But we avoid the inevitable mess by tying up some gauze around the cage. I can actually leave the cloth for a longer time and then take it off and wash it twice a week, it keeps the feathers from flying around too! I cover only three walls of the cage, the front one is always open. The gauze iz light, transparent, hygienic, and almost invisible. It is completely breetheable. And there is no mess!!! Well, just a little bit... :ausb:
