Baby Budgie With Undershot Beak What To Do!

Featured Replies

one of my babies i have noticed has an undershot beak (i think thats what it is called?) the top beak goes inside the bottom rather than over it, do i have to worry? i did get told to trim the beak back a little so trimmed the bottom slightly and it has grown back twice as much as i trimmed, will he be able to eat o.k he seems o.k but just wondered if there is anything i can do to help him etc or if he will suffer any ill effects later on.....

don't worry you have done the right thing and normally it wont recover but if you keep trimming it it will keep growing but thats like our hair so you need to trim it so that he can eat properly. i've had one like that and he was fine but i have found that they seem to be more susceptible to scaly mite invasion so keep an eyes out for it on all of your birds. the baby will always need special care so make sure that he receives it.

he should't have any trouble eating as he will change his eating style to make it easier for himself to eat like using a shovel movement to pick up seed etc.

if he does appear to have any trouble eating then shoot off a trip to the Avian et to get it into shape quick smart

hope this helps,

Sco-tie
