Posted December 7, 200618 yr I was driving past a pet shop today and they had a cage out the front that caught my eye, so I stopped to take a look and thought - lets see if they have any budgies :hap: I knew I was setting myself up for heartbreak but I couldn't resist. They have great conditions and they are clean and the budgies all looked healthy, they had all come from the same breeder and were all green pied babies in the top cage, and more pieds and VIOLETS in the bottom cage! There was one baby in particular that looked like it was too young to be away from the nest, really tiny and still a little black on her beak. She was a grey green spangle and she was sitting in a dish (that had no food in it) and was shivering so violently that the dish was rattling and banging against the cage. I said to the shop keeper this and she said that its just because she is a baby. I started talking to this gorgeous little grey green spangle baby girl and she was closing her little eyes and tilting her head a little - I wanted her sooo badly :budgiedance: Do you think she was shivering because she was scared and cold? Her feathers were smooth and she wasn't puffy at all, just seemed like she could have had another week with mummy Edited December 7, 200618 yr by Riebie
December 7, 200618 yr If she was shivering that violently, I'd worry about a neurological condition... cold budgies are fluffy budgies. Trembling in parrots can come about from excitement too but it doesn't sound like the case there. Poor baby, I feel so bad for her. :budgiedance:
December 7, 200618 yr Author O Terri I wanted to take her home and snuggle her, my heart broke - my hubby would KILL me though - I am already in trouble for buying another 2 that were being re-homed - and I have arranged an avairy for them to stay in after quaranteen :budgiedance:
December 7, 200618 yr I know how you feel, I've had to walk away more often than I wanted to. Though I have to say that not walking away can be just as painful... If it makes you feel any better, a lot of people believe that for the better of the birds in that store in general, it's best to walk away from a store that isn't doing right. When you buy from them, you just give them room to buy and sell even more birds. Granted, telling myself that doesn't EVER seem to help me. I'd feel exactly the way you do, and I have. But we can't save them all.
December 7, 200618 yr Author I know what you mean The store itself is actually good - they have clean cages and toys and they aren't over crowded - the budgies are all healthy looking and happy looking too - I think the breeder shouldn't have sold this one just yet, she looked so small and lonely This is the same pet shop I got Sunny from - I think its the best in town for budgies Edited December 7, 200618 yr by Riebie
December 7, 200618 yr That's good at least. It's just too bad they don't seem to know to give the poor little thing some extra attention/care. Maybe you can stop in and check in on her again sometime?
December 7, 200618 yr Well you can visit the shop again check on her and if she is still like that bring it up to someone's attention. That could make the difference in this littles life and the others even though you can't bring her home. I understand your pain.
