My Daughter's Pet Budgie?

Featured Replies

Was wondering what you guys think this budgie is in colour and mutation.

Personality is to die for,his name is Chippy and he chats away nearly 24/7.

His nick name is "Chipster mobile".

Wish I could breed from this guy,but my daughter says no.

I would say he is a Light Green Clearflight Opaline

but on that last picture it looks like he has a blue spot and between his wings, is that the camera or could he be a YF2?

he's very pretty!

Hi lovey,he has no blue on him except his blue marks on face.He has different shades of green on his belly. The camera doesn't show his true colour in flight, that photo is decieving.Clear flight opaline was my guess.

Thank you for looking and your reply.

he's a spangle opaline.. I am thinking YF2, not light green, but better picture of his rump without the flash and also under his wings might help with that. :(

will try and get photo of his back without flash.Whenever flash is used his colour fades!

the reason I ask for under the wing is because one of my girl starts off fairly blue (YF2) but now she's green as, and the only place that you can tell that she's a blue series is a tiny bit of blue patches under her wings. :( It seems they didn't change. :(

Agreeing with the Spangle Opaline part I overlooked those marking but undecided about the YF part until further pics

I had to look twice at the wings to check for spangle, as he does look like one at first glance. But to me the wings are edged in yellow like a normal would be and not the other way around. I agree with the opaline, but not sure about the spangle. I think he is green series and not blue. He is lovely!

yes the very edge of the feathers are yellow, that's how spangles are. i'm not at home, so i can't take a picture of my spangles close up to show you. Basically the black (in this case green because of the opaline gene) lines are actually a couple of millimeter of the edge of the feathers, still giving you a yellow/white edge (pending on white or yellow bird)

And the bird also have a spangle tails. two clear tails in the middle. :ausb:

Yes Cheeta is right, spangle are not really reverse in colour but the black insides of the feathers are reduced to a thin line. It is sometimes when you say reverse people click on what you are trying to tell them.

I think he is a green not a blue looking at the yellow on the head and neck, there isn't a differance in deapth of colour that you normally see in Yellowfaces and Golden faces.

Don't forget the green bird still have the blue in the feathers and a flash can cause this to show more than the natural colour.

I don't think clearflight as there are faint marks on his flights- maybe from the spangle (?) making them pale

He's a very spunky looking fella though!!!

actually I was thinking clearwing but I typed it wrong (Laughing out loud) I believe but I have changed to Opaline Spangle myself :hap:

okay guys these photos are going to help.I hope. After posting Chippy's picture I have noticed more things about him. These photos are true to colour,as much as possible. He does have different shades of green on his belly, yes definately different shades.Yellow edges on wings, with a couple of dark spots which are black, his lines on his head are green and the patch under his wings is lighter even without flash, not blue but a bluey green.I hope this isnt confusing people even more.

I hope these help and not confuse you guys more.I know I am confused.

Thanks for your replies.

I'm still seeing only a green bird, there is only green feathers not a mix of green and blue like ou would see in a YF.

I agree with Nyos, i see aqua blue and green on the bird. looks like a yf2 to me too.

the patch under his wings is lighter even without flash, not blue but a bluey green.

YF ALWAYS have blue feathers under the wing not a bluey green or a mix of both.

FGM - Could you tell us what he looked like as a baby?

Will have to look for old photos. We got him as a baby from pet city and he was exactly the same

just had more stripes on his head.Has always had the different shades of green on him.He has seemed to got brighter in the yellow head area.I suppose he did get a bit darker than when he was a baby.

:grbud:

okay guys heard chippy chatting away saying "chippy pretty budgie"

so I went to look at him and I really think that he does have blue near his feet area on his belly and under wings/rump.I always just thought of him as green but now i wonder?! Now I am reallly disappointed that I can't breed him. Will have to find look alike.(Laughing out loud) Or get daughter female budgie.(Laughing out loud)
