Posted December 1, 200618 yr Every now and then I have people come by and they drop of supplies for birds they no longer have a use for. In one of the bags, there is a brand new(still sealed) bottle of "soins care vitamin supplement conditioner" but it says for veteriary use only. not sure what do with it tried calling my brother(outta town again) with no luck.. has anyone heard of this? its not bird specific, just budgies, 1 drop in water, tiels 3 drops ect all the way to a macaw.
December 1, 200618 yr Everyone has a different opinion on the whole vitamin in the water. I haven't used it personally myself. What I hear is that you never really know how much of the vitamins they are going to get because they don't drink much water and it is better to get the vitamins they need through the food they eat naturally. I am sure others will come with their suggestions too
December 1, 200618 yr Can you not give your brother (or another avian vet) a call? I would hate to be one of his clients! Joking aside, I wouldn't use it, to be honest. The very best source of vitamins for birds is a healthy, varied diet. If your birds are getting a variety of healthy vegetables, cooked foods, grains, etc. and a high quality seed mix you don't need the vitamins. If you feel your birds are showing signs of certain vitamin deficiencies, you can talk to your vet who can confirm your suspicions through bloodwork/exam and recommend what foods to feed to compensate for what is needed. Or he may give you the right vitamins prescribed by him. I think it's very important to have a firm understanding of vitamins, what they do, the amount your birds need, and most importantly, if your bird even has a problem with a deficiency of the vitamins you're thinking of adding to its diet.
