Turned In Feet!

Featured Replies

i just noticed that my baby budgie has turned in feet as this is the first time he has been out of the box he seems to have adjusted to this way of walking and he can grip poles okay but i wanted to know if this could have any danger to him when he is older please help with any advice

THANKYOU

AARON

Don't worry Aaron, he will be fine. I have two disabled budgies with funny feet and they are doing just fine. Trooper has a foot turned sideways and Dance has her toes all twisted up. They can fly around the avairy, they can perch, they can run along the perches and they don't get picked on by other budgies. Your budgie sounds like it has already figured out how to get around. Things will get better from here onwards.

Cheers karen

He is a cutie and doesn't seem too worried about his feet.

Is this splayed feet!

I have never seen a picture of this.

No. This isn't splayed feet. Splayed legs are when each leg sticks out horizontally from each side of a budgies body. I will try and find you a picture so you will recognise it if you ever see it.

thats great to hear about your birds hope my little one gets at near-normal life but if his feet arnt worring him now then he can only get better

just curious, is a budgie with splayed feet treatable? if so how is it usually treated? if not would a budgie be able to survive with splayed feet?

I have successfully repaired a budgie with splayed legs, but you have to recognize it in the nest early and begin treatment early. Early being at about the 10-14 day mark. Too late and it wont work. I created a hobble type setup from some soft makeup sponge cut in a rectangle. I cut little holes in it for the legs to go through and pushed the sponge up past the budgies Kneesies. so, the legs are drawn in together and budgie baby can still get around. After about a week you take it off and see how the legs are. If still a problem you do it again and maybe bring the legs a bit closer in the next time...for another week.

Baby goes from looking like this one on the right

He is adorable Aaron. Are you giving him to Mum as a house Pet? If not, I know where he would find a good home :) Guess where :sport:

Thanks Karen, I'm still trying to find out as much info as I can on breeding, I would love to see a picture of your design if you have one :(

Yep, a couple of oldies who live in an even older house, with an almost completed new kitchen. Please note, I said 'almost' :(Laughing out loud):
