Iodine And Calcium Perches

Featured Replies

A couple of days age I bought a green iodine and calcium perch, buttercup my lutino hen has really taken to it and is now sporting a fluroresent green head!! and I have noticed some bright green poo in the cage as well. Is this safe??

(I can't remember the brand of the perch but it looks like a oversized piece of textured chalk which you attach to the cage with a wing nut, the perch came in a choice of two colours light green and light orange.)

Yep that is okay they are safe.

When is wears down where you can see the metal toss them out  and replace.

Thanks for that Lovey! I'll post some pictures of Buttercup's fluro head soon!!

The only worry I would have is that it's changing the color of her poop. That in itself isn't a horrible thing but, anything that changes the poop also makes it hard for you to monitor it. It might be best to use one that isn't colored so that if she does fall ill and her poops change, you'll know that it has nothing to do with the perch.

Then again, a bright neon green-headed budgie sounds funny. :)

:) I want pics of the neon headed budgie!!

me too! :)

Thanks for that Terri I will keep a look out. Also I will post some photos tomorrow as I will be out for the day.
