Posted November 28, 200618 yr I read somewhere you could do something with egg shells and they are good for your budgies? Is this correct and if so what do you do to the egg shells before giving them to your budgies? I know its vague but I'm sure I heard something At work I use a dozen or so a night thats why I am asking :hap:
November 28, 200618 yr When i make mine i get a hard boiled egg, bread crumbs, bird seed, and my birds favourite veggies. You microwaves the egg shell for about 2 mins and smash that into a fine powder. You add that to mashed hard boiled egg. Sprinkle some bread crumbs over the top just enough to spread right through the mix. Add a tablespoon or two of the budgies seed mix and then mix some finely chopped veggies in as well and stir it all together. by Bea
December 2, 200618 yr Thank you for the good advice! Egg shells should be a good calcium supply for the birds. My mother-in-law gives some to chicken together with seashells we gather for her in summer. Maybe budgies will try seashells too. :offtopic: What are your birds' favourite veggies?
December 3, 200618 yr Be very carefull about saving the eggshells. I ground some up to a fine powder and used some in some corn bread for the birds and put the rest in a covered container in the frig. In one or two days I took them out again thinking that I would use them again, but they were spoiled. They smelled horrible. Maybe they would have been okay if I had frozen them. Just be aware that they spoil very quickly! Shell
December 3, 200618 yr Isn't brocolli some kind of cabbage? Be very carefull about saving the eggshells. Just be aware that they spoil very quickly!Shell That is absolutely right! Byt they can be washed and dried thoroughly and that will prevent them from rotting so fast.
December 5, 200618 yr Author Hi silver the big green vegetable in this picture with my little budgie is brocoli. My birds just love it!!! They get green feathers all around their beaks when they eat it, it is sooo cute!!! They also love corn on the cob.
December 5, 200618 yr My birds just discovered the joys of "brocoli slaw" It is just brocoli and carrots grated up together. They love it.
December 5, 200618 yr Thank you. I'll try to get some brocoli for them. It should probably be steamed...
December 7, 200618 yr They also love corn on the cob. I've never tried Corn on the cob , is that "fresh" or cooked ? Mine so far like Broccoli and carrot , they also had a go at pomegranate now its the right time of year for it . I think corn on the cob will be a nice change
