Posted November 27, 200618 yr Tonight Scooter regurgitated or vomited. This is the first time I've ever seen this happen. He kept moving his head up and down and then some seed came up. He slung it all over the cage and even got some on his face and head. Would this be considered vomiting or regurgitating? He hasn't been acting any differently and is eating normally, so I don't believe he's sick. He seems fine right now and is eating again. So how can you tell if it's vomiting or regurgitation?
November 27, 200618 yr Vomiting is a fast and voilent shaking of the head where seed fly around the cage an ends up on the to of the head, also giving them a 'sweating' look as the feathers a plasted down. Regurgitating is a gentle action where they birs only bobs up and down and trys to pass the food to a toy or you. Sometimes when it's not accecpted they will re-eat it. Sounds like Scooter was sick. Has he done this again? Are there other signs of illness?
November 27, 200618 yr Author No he hasn't done it again. He looks fine this morning. He's eating and drinking and has been running around his cage singing and playing. He's not fluffed up and his poop looks normal. Could he have maybe eaten something that made him sick? The container of his seed his about empty, so could it be the older seed that made him sick? It still looks and smells fine, but maybe it's getting old. He's going through his first molt too. Could that have something to do with it? Edited November 27, 200618 yr by luvnscooter
November 28, 200618 yr Molting will not make him vomit. Birds don't normally vomit, so anytime that happens there is a reason. I would guess he either ate something that did not agree with him or he has an infection of sorts. Since he seems normal today I would lean towards eating something a little "off". What else does he eat besides seed?
November 28, 200618 yr Blinkie once stuffed himself on a bad millet spray and vomitted a tiny bit. Only once though and nothing else changed.
