Posted November 27, 200618 yr hello, my budgie has laid its eggs and 1 hatched this morning but it doesnt look alive how do i know that it is alive?
November 27, 200618 yr Reach into the nesting box and gently nudge the baby with your finger. If it wiggles, its alive. If it isn't remove it. New babies lie on their backs to be fed and look dead but aren't, so be sure. Check that baby has food in it's crop if it is alive, and leave Mum and baby to it. You should always check your babies daily, to be sure parents are feeding them. Some new parents take half a day to feed the new babies so don't panic if you see a freshly hatched one with no food in its crop....just check it later to be sure. November 27, 200618 yr For the first while the babies are feed on their back, but no they don't have to stay that way, most other times when it's not feed time they are on their bellies. So you see any movement at all? Flapping of wings turning in circles? any noise at all?
November 27, 200618 yr no noise or movement that ive noticed should i leave it in there for a couple days to see whether its alive or get it out Edited November 27, 200618 yr by stevnbudgielover
November 27, 200618 yr Mom will push it aside fast if the worse has happened and the bub has died. You can handle them to be sure right now if you wish.
