Posted November 25, 200618 yr Heya , having a problem atm sexing a particular bird , looks like a grey green hen to me , I say that because the cere is whitish with a little tan in the middle , but it is also showing blue . What has me baffled is that it has got together with a Opaline sky blue hen and they are going through all the courting motions , tapping beaks , backs etc , but after watching for some days on and off , I have seen this green roll onto his back on the cage floor when she has come up to him , also see the other hen take on the more aggresive approach too . For all I know the hen seriously wants to breed and has chosen this bird to help with that , anyhow , here is the piccie , any help would be appreciated , thanks .
November 25, 200618 yr The cheeks spots are blue so it would not be a grey green if it was the cheek spots would be grey. As for what type of green a better picture of the whole bird would be wonderful. From here looks like a normal green but it may not be. I agree she is a she doesn't look male and she is out of condition. I have read that they can have sexual differences so to speak. I believe it was hath that had a male that was trying to nest. Do you have a picture of the other bird?

Ahh okay on the grey green , must be a dark green , its a lot darker than my other normal green , its in "my flock" pictures , furthest one in the group photo . Also the other bird is a real hen , she can be seen , closest to you in the group photo , but its not a very good picture of her , here cere is dark brown atm . Thanks . http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=12677
November 25, 200618 yr looks hen to me too (Laughing out loud) it could be that they are just not ready especially since the above hen is out of breeding condition. How old are they?
November 25, 200618 yr The green is almost 1 year old , the Opaline blue hen is 2 years old , I'll try the hen out with a real "cock" bird when she is ready
November 25, 200618 yr The green may not be ready many breeders wait until their birds are around 15 months especially hens. .
