December 22, 200618 yr well looking at Romeo he has one wing feather that looks spangle plus the patchy white and blue cheek marks of a spangle. okay, I am not nuts, I said the same thing to Cheeta when we were having this discussion and thought that Romeo was a spangle by the few markings he has plus he still would be a r. pied.
December 22, 200618 yr I had to double check today when I was over there, and I can definitely say that Romeo is definitely NOT a spangle. definitely a recessive pied.
December 31, 200618 yr Author I have had a nice little break with Christmas and haven't been updating the daily blog, so here goes again. Goliath and Candy have 4 babies and at least 2 of them are dominant pieds like Candy. Another of their babies was born yesterday on a very hot day and due to the tiny size of it and the huge size of the siblings, it went unnoticed by the parents. So I brought it inside and fed the tiny little thing. It took its food well and I then made a choice not to put it back in with much larger older siblings as it may well get squashed in the nest. Sadie and Slick have 5 new eggs so I put Goliath and Candy's baby in there with the remnants of eggshell it came out of and Sadie took care of it as her own. Good girl, Sadie Misty and Stumpy have 5 gorgeous babies with at least 3 of them colouring up like the mother so far, but time will tell. Four babies to Bunty and her boy. Another thrill is that a pair of show birds I put together with excellent advice from Daz have produced their first egg. It is a larger egg than those I am seeing with my pet type budgies. A cute little male creamino fledgling to Butter (creamino) and Chucky ( yf 2 dom pied ). Two grey normal fledglings to Spice ( grey opaline ) and Handsome ( cobalt rec pied ) . Lots of new modifications to the aviaries. Edited December 31, 200618 yr by Bubbles

January 1, 200718 yr Author Here is the 5th baby of Goliath and Candy, being raised by Sadie How hard is it to breed headless chicks? :hap: Sorry, couldn't resist. it was my exact thought too when I saw the photos.... :hap:
January 3, 200718 yr Author My first pair of show budgies that had laid their first egg, broke the egg. But today brought another "first" egg so here's hoping. There are four babies in this nest ( if you look closely you will see one baby... far right rear... wearing a splint ) ... this baby has a crooked leg from a nest injury and the leg was growing out to the side like a splayed leg, so I have splinted it hoping to correct the problem. Here are the parents Dad and Mum Ken's efforts to defeat the rain by fixing the roof of the new birdroom yesterday met with a pile of rain that got in overnight, so its back to the drawing board....or I might just do the roofing myself. The adopted baby of Goliath and Candy that is in with Sadie is being well looked after. Sadie thinks its hers the other four brothers and sisters in Goliath and Candy's box are growing. The two dom pieds are HUGE. More to follow soon. Edited January 3, 200718 yr by Bubbles

January 4, 200718 yr Karen, they are all so beautiful. I just bought another cage a little bigger than one I currently have (in cm's -155h X 80l x 60d or inches 61h X 31l x 24d), so that I can separate males and females. If I decide to go ahead and breed later this year I am going to be getting a lot of information from you. You have such beautiful, healthy looking clutches. Feathers.

I call it my patio cage. and it has sliding doors both sides for access and peaked roof and wheels for rolling along. Fits a few birds in it. Mine currently is empty but its a good cage for when new birds come in and can be quarantined in it. My birds have got a lot healthier since I changed them onto finch mix, reduced stress levels (i.e. moving them about ) and have been worming them regularly ( they are on soil ) . Prior to the finch mix they were on quality budgie breeder mix but they were all getting fat. With the finch mix they eat it all and waste nothing, so I guess it is working. January 5, 200718 yr Author Everytime I turned around today this baby was out of the nest I don't think it has enough feathers to be out yet, do you ?! So I kept putting it back in. I guess 5 babies and Mum and Dad in there is getting a bit crowded. :bluebudgie: I was in the main aviary and checking on all the gang. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a stunning budgie. I thought to myself...Where did that come from ?! ...........then realised it was Mars after his first moult !! His colours look great and his cere is so blue. A very handsome lad. Sounds exactly like my cage, Karen. I picked it up off ebay for $100.00, never been used, I just have to find someone to pick it for me. It will be in my room with the other cage... 5 budgies in each. I was going to ask you in pm where you got your supplies from, but I guess this is just as good a place (pm the answer if you wish). Very interesting about the finch feed. Mine are currently on a mixture from a local supplier, mixwed with Trill. I have also wondered about worming, I have never done mine. I have loved watching my budgies going through their first moult. In some you hardly notice, but in others the transition is amazing Edited January 5, 200718 yr by feathers
