BUDGERIGAR COLOUR GUIDE

A field study was carried out in seven member countries (Australia, Belgium, Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the U.S.A.) involving many fanciers, to establish a WBO Budgerigar Colour Guide for the basic budgerigar primary colours using the Pantone Colour Chart.

Many budgerigar samples were used in those countries and it was eventually agreed that the WBO Budgerigar Colour Guide (using Pantone charts) should be :

be carefull if you show in uk as the bs standards are different to wbo

I know that the ring colours in Australia is different to WBO.

:rip: then why even bother having a colour guide if different countries are going to set different standards?

the bs was formed first then the wbo by some prominent people in the bs who disagreed with the ideal other the last few years the wbo has put their ideal to the bs to see if they can adopt the same ideal so far the bs has not accepted their version and continues to use their own now as the bs is the biggest club and has more shows in the uk that is the ideal you should look at in the other countries check with your main society to see which ideal they are using as if you follow the wbo you will be trying to get to a different standard and will not be very successful

exactly daz people need to check the wbo colour standard is not wildly used

As this is not a correctly widely used standard. (I didn't know that, thank Hath for setting us straight  ) I have un pined it.

Does anyone know of a widely used standard?

Thank for clearing that up Hath, I understand the reasoning behind the different standards now.

daz the best i can come up with is to check your national standard

Hath the National Standards doesn't have a colour chart. It saays that The colour is in all cases to be pure and uniformin tone except where otherwise allowed in variety standards

Under Greygreens it says that the colour is to be grey green :(Obviously

the bs have published their own book on colour standards

under grey green it states

mask: buttercup yellow, ornamented by six evenly spaced large round black throat spots, the outer two being partially covered by the base of the cheek patches. the buttercup yellow of the mask extending over the frontal crown, to merge with the black undulations at the back of the head. the frontal and crown should be clear and free from all markings.

cheek patches: grey.

general body colour: rump, breast, flanks and underparts grey green of a solid and even shade throughout.

markings: on cheeks, back of head, neck and wings; black with a well-defined buttercup yellow edge, all markings should be free from any intrusion of body colour.

primary wing flights:black with a minimal buttercup yellow edge.

primary tail feathers:black.

feet and legs:blue/grey mottled.

eyes:black with a white iris.

note their are light, medium and dark shades of grey green

a little bit more in depth than it has to be grey green
