Whats He Doing?

My budgie stormy is today standing on his perch with his wings slightly of his body, I can't take a picture becuase when I go out there he stops doing it but I can see him doing it through the window and I can't take picture through the window because the sun is behind it so it doesn't show up.

I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what he is doing let me explain a little better... he is standing on his perch with his wings slightly out from his body they are not fully stretched out like they do when they stretch its just the shoulder parts of his wings are of his body and he is chirping away, he looks like he is doing it at winter (female) but just not sure is he just showing of? its a bit of a warm day today could he be hot?

hope it makes sense what I said

Budgies hold their wings out from their body when they're too hot, so i'd say that's what it is. :ausb:

Since we both live in Western Australia and its a hot day....and since all my budgies are doing the same thing....I would say they are HOT :ausb:

sounds like it. Do they like a bath? if so add their bath to the cage for them next time or spray them with some water.

Did he look like this? This is parsley on the 36degree day we had on Monday. They just love a light shower with the hose when it gets that hot. :ausb:

Thanks so much everyone I thought he was hot, just wasn't sure, they have a bath in the cage and winter uses it but I haven't seen him (stormy) use it so I got out the spray bottle and gave them a light spray he flew away from it though so I have come to the conclusion he doesn't like bath's ...... typical boy I have the same trouble with my son hehe

he looked exactly like that cheekychucky

anyway now I feel like a idiot for asking because I thought that was what is was hehehehe

you were concerned don't feel like an idiot, all questions are good questions

Pretty is not a bath budgie either but if the other like bathes Stormy may follow suit that is what happens here. Though sometimes and it is not very often if he looks like he needs a bath I will grab him and gently run luke warm water over him. Does he like it no but he looks so much better.

thanks lovey :P just love my birdies, most of the time I have a fair idea of what might be going on just like to come here to clarify... and after stormy's little tail thing the other day which we are of to the vet's for tomorrow I must admit I wasn't sure

Try to mist him with a spray bottle more often, maybe he will get to like it, especially as it gets hotter. Most of mine do, Zanthie can't seem to get enough of it. They have a couple of baths but I really only see Keely in it when she is eating her veggies. The rest just think they are there as another water supply.

yep, my birds did it today too, wings all stretched out.... warm today for them. :P

my budgies will take to the water differently.. some will jump in a bowl of water, some will go under dripping droplets, some in a bowl full of lettuces, some will just take a mist spray.. all birds will want to get wet one way or another at some point in their life.. so you just gotta figure out what he does.. in the mean time on hot days, I just spray them all down for a cooling effect!! :P
