Posted November 20, 200618 yr hi all, I just got a new budgie, a female latino, and she's missing alot of feathers around her belly and back of her head. She was in with alot of other budgies, and she seemed to be a bit of an outcast! I've been treating her with mite spray regularly, just to be on the safe side, and kept her in a seperate cage. Is there anything else I can do? thanks in advance, Amy.
November 21, 200618 yr Do you have an avain vet near you that can take this little one to be sure she is in the clear or other feather deseases? Any chance of getting a picture for here so we can have a look? Don't over the do the spray (just to be on the safe side) if mites are not the issue here you can overdose her system.
November 21, 200618 yr 2nd it with Nerwen a picture would be great I wouldn't treat unless you knew for sure she could have been picked on and not have mites a trip to the avian vet is best
November 21, 200618 yr Thanks heaps guys! I haven't got a camera as yet, but will post pics ASAP. I do have a vet just down the road, will have to wait till Thursday, as it's Ballarat Cup tomorrow, and they will all be closed. She actually appears soooooo much better today, not flighty at all, eating happily, and not scratching at all. I'll give the treatment a rest, and take her in on Thursday.... I'll keep you posted... Amy. :dbb1:
November 21, 200618 yr Still take her because it doesn't sound normal when they open up Keep us updated.
November 23, 200618 yr Still take her because it doesn't sound normal when they open up :ausb:Keep us updated. She was given the all clear, looks like the other budgies in that cage didn't like her at all!!!! She's now eating heaps, feathers are already starting to look better, and she's bouncing around the cage quite merrily!!!! Thanks for your help guys! Amy. :bluebudgie:
November 23, 200618 yr It's a peace of mind to know that she is okay. Look out for heaps of pin feathers coming in they will be ichy.
