Posted November 20, 200618 yr Daz brought up a good point that some that look like dilutes are really not dilutes because the certain mutation washes out the body. I still get confused so those who are really good with genetics. Can you explain what makes a dilute and what mutations wash out the body coloring making the bird not a dilute. I would appreciate the clarification. As I get confused with if they are a cinnamon and a light grey are they a dilute? or is the cinnamon washing out the body color? and there are more like the greywing gene, clear wing...etc.. Please explain. :book:
November 20, 200618 yr There are three types of dilutes in that family. Greywing, Clearwing and the dilute. You won't hear much about dilutes on the show bench as it is a defect in the gene as far as the Show world is conserned. Greywings have a there Melanin diluted from black to grey the body colour is also wash to 50% it's normal intensity. The spots are grey, Cheek Patches are violet, tail quill is grey with a violet blue Tail feather. Clearwings have very little if any Melinan so the wings, head and neck are with out markings or as close to the ground colour as possible. The spots are clear, Cheek patches are violet the tail Quil is neutral and the tail is neutral with ground or body colour suffusion. Dilutes have a high percentage of the melinan and body colour effected. the wings are washed out as is the body colour. I must note that the check patches of Grey green and grey Greywings and Clearwings are grey not violet.
November 21, 200618 yr Author thank you I am going to copy and paste and keep this for reference Daz. I may have more questions later.
November 21, 200618 yr I thought that you can get full body greywings as well. And also cinnamon makes the body colour lighter as well. Am I wrong?
November 21, 200618 yr now that's right. full body greywings are the joining of greywing and clearwing genes.
November 21, 200618 yr Author what about the cinnamon gene - the question that Cheeta asked? That one confused me.
November 22, 200618 yr when I posted this bird I think we worked out she was diluted due to the cinnamon gene, she is a very pale grey/almost white colour only really shows up in photos. spangle opaline cinnamon grey (cheek spots and faint markings are cinnamon) Edited November 22, 200618 yr by daz
November 22, 200618 yr Author the question is how do you know they are not carrying the dilute gene if they are a cinnamon?
November 23, 200618 yr I getcha- so is she so pale due to the cinnamon or to another factor-dilution- in her makeup, cinnamon would cover up any greywing ( :bluebudgie: ) as an example- hmm so to tell with these birds you would really have to know the bloodlines????
November 23, 200618 yr Author if they have brown wings they can't be a grey wing at all I expect I am still waiting for my answer above though (Laughing out loud)
