daz started a good topic on spangles so i thought i would put up some thoughts on inos

a lot of beginners think these birds are the easiest to get to show standard as you don't have the spots and markings to worry about but colour and size.with lutinos this can be hard to keep the rich buttercup colour as well as size

lutino.jpg

for these you have to go to normals utilizing medium and dark factor greens to keep the green sheen from appearing in the body colour using grey greens will dull the colour size deportment and head quality are paramount a little tip is dont forget that lutino is a masking colour so if you have a good flecked bird it wont show up on the chicks if passed on

for the albinos greys are better to use than blues as blue birds can cause a blue suffusion which must be avoided

remember cinnamon must be avoided at all cost with lutinos and albinos

these are my thoughts on these birds hope this has given a little insight to the show inos

What about breeding a violet to a lutino? What will that do to a lutino's colour?

Do we have a colour chart on this site so that we know exactly what green to breed? I would have thought that a green would enhance the sheen on a lutino?

Can you explain how the greens keep the green sheen from appearing in the body colour?

With grey to an albino, would that not make the white a more duller colour?

Mate, there is so much to learn!

remember we are talking show birds here and violets are inherent small birds so wouldnt be used as outcrosses as we the lutinos would lose size

medium and dark factor greens dont pass on the greeny looking colour some lutinos suffer from but light greens do.a darker green will intensify the yellow remember the lutino is basically a green

a grey is basically a skyblue with a single or double factor added so it doesnt pass on the blue sheen to a albino and it doesnt dull the birds remember not to use df greys or you will end up with all sf greys

What Hath means, I think, by an out cross is interpeted two ways. One is to bring in new blood from outside to enhance only the line. The second is to buy in a bird to breed from.

The violet factor will enhance the lutino but if you breed it too much into the line it will reduce the size of the birds in the line.

Is this right Hath?

it is very hard to keep lutinos x lutinos the size and quality you need for exhibition standard after a while head and size will be lost so a non lutino would have to be used you are bringing this bird in to improve the head, mask and size violets would not meet that requirment evan though they would enhance the colour most of the top violets bred by accident from studs with a few dark factor birds

So the best would be a pairing to a strong Dark Green or Olive bird?

thats rite daz as light greens cause the green sheen to a lutino

I was told once that a gray budgie paired to a lutino would help with injecting new genes to help with size etc.

Is this right or is did I miss hear the ino?

I have 2 lutinos, one is a rich yellow whilst the other is a lighter yellow. If I were to breed these two together (assuming that one is male) would the babies be a mix of colors like yellow, white and pale yellow?

I also have a grey male, if I were to breed him with a lutino, would the size and head size be greatly different???

How do you get into showing birds? I see rings are being mentioned. where do you get them and what are their costs and purpose?

Edited by Julie_K

To start showing budgies you have to join a local budgie club in your area. That is where you get the rings from that are needed on the bird to be shown.

As to the colours and pairings I will leave that to the experts to explain.

Thanks, I found a local group in my area, but they are still under construction...so hopefully, i will hear back from them about the club.

Why must cinnamons be avoided with lutinos and albinos? What happens??? :)
