Posted November 18, 200618 yr Well the fighting between my 2 new lovely birds has stopped. Tweety (Albino, Female) And Bluey (Blue, Male). Although bluey has firmly took over the role of king of the cage even though normally the first one in owns it. Tweety doesn't mind though as bluey is week older. They seem to be grooming eachother, well tweety likes to groom bluey more like (Laughing out loud) and i've seen some kissing aswell. They've also snapped outta their quiet spell, they have started chirping abit. still not alot but the odd time they would, especially when they eat. They no longer fight when they eat, they take turns going down to the feeder, i will try and get another feeder soon, but i dont want to confuse them. It seems tweetly likes to sit on the sides of the cage, with her beek around the bars, is this normal? seems wierd because she constantly does it when Bluey is sitting on the yellow water tub thing. Taming is going okay, they dont run as much from my hand when i put it in cage, and i am able to stroke them both without them fleeing (Laughing out loud). Although if they see that someone else is around the cage while my hand is there, they seem afraid and do flee, Why is that? Also i am trying to do the up on finger method but to success but i am hoping if one is comfortable to perch on my finger the other will see that its safe and wud like to do so also. What should i do?
November 18, 200618 yr birds tend to get attached to people not like dogs where they love everyone (or almost everyone (Laughing out loud)). So they are starting to trust you does not mean they will trust the next person (now some on this board do have birds that are very tame and go to everyone). My 2 birds trust me because I handle them but they don't trust the hubby as well. So this is normal. What you are doing is good that is what I do with Merlin and Pretty. Merlin is more apt to sit on my finger, Pretty is flighter so I use Merlin by getting him to step up and then Pretty joins the party. You can go to www.budgietalk.com for more ideas on taming. As for biting the cage bars and hanging on them also very normal. I find Merlin in odd positions at time .
November 18, 200618 yr Hi, Mentioning tweety on the side of the cage, which is normal, reminded me of a scene I came across a couple of weeks ago. I was in a pet store, so I went to see their birds and there was one cage that had about 10 budgies in it, but only enough perching room for about 6 of them. There was one poor bird trying to sleep on the side of the cage by holding on with his beak because there was no where else for him to go. I was so angry. November 18, 200618 yr awe did you report them? I DO, I just did a couple weeks ago you can see it under pet shops and what happened. I still need to revisit the shop here in the next few weeks, as I want to make sure they did what they said they would do.
November 19, 200618 yr Author Well they are still fighting at times but its normally only when one gets in the other ones way. But when they never liked eachother tweety used to just run the second bluey shown any hostility. But if bluey is just being unreasonable in trying to get her out of the way, tweety wud actually fight back probably thinking, 'hey no u cant just say move and get ur way.' I find it hilarious. All my hard work so far taming is abit ruined as my niece who is 1 and a half sorta frightened the birds. I caught her keep rapidly poking her fingers into the cage and the birds were completely frightned. I hav still been able to stroke their breasts but they are very watchful as they move away at first. bluey was actually flying over to the other side of the cage at the sight of my hand at first. But i am confident I can get them finger tame. I really don't want to clip their wings, I never clipped my last one's wings, he always loved flying around the room. He was never a finger person, he wud always nip u and then fly on ur shoulder, i guess he sorta always wanted to make his own way over to you and it seemed to always be ur shoulder.
