Help With New Budgie Fighting

Featured Replies

Hi guys. I really need help. On Friday 10th I had purchased a new white Budgie. And again today the 14th I had got a blue to keep eachother company. I got both from the same place, and were bred from the same breeder. The white one was very curious and had been watching the blue one eat. Then the white one had ate after the blue one did. The blue one had then took the white's usual spot on sitting on this yellow toy in the corner of the cage. And there is only 1 place for a budgie there. The white one has been trying to get up beside the blue one but the blue one fights him away, and the white one flies. They are both 8 weeks old, white is female and blue is male. When the blue one had moved off the toy the white one again tried to approach the blue one but the blue one had none of it and had just fought her away. He obviously doesn't mind her being there but not in his way. My theory is maybe the blue one just wants to get used to his new surroundings first before anything happens? What should I do? :)

how big is your cage?

Welcome to the forums

Nice size cage, I think they are just trying to work things out personally. You don't see out right fighting it is just this is mine and this is yours - budgies are greedy little things.

This toy what type is it?

Oh and just a tip for next time I know you got them right after the other and the same place but when you add to your flock again (if you do) do make sure you quarentine for 30 days to ensure the health of the new one and keep your old one safe.

I don't think i'm able to get a new one for quite some time. I'll probably breed in a few years and keep 1 or 2 of those and give rest to friends and cousins. Main thing now is to get them to attach to eachother and then finger taming :)

what type of toy are they fighting over ? :)

I would remove it there is competition because they believe it is a real budgie and one is getting more protective over it very similar to mirrors.

If you take it out you will see the difference. Replace with a different toy a preening one is great because budgies love to preen.

That is a great idea Lovey. I would bet that would solve the problem. A certain amount of feisty behavior is normal for them, but if it revolves around a certain toy, taking the toy away should stop it.... till they find something else to argue about (Laughing out loud) I used this method in rasing four human boys....

:) bless you Shell my husband is the youngest of 4 boys

back on topic preening is soothing too and get a toy that is big enough for both of them to preen.
