Mystery Solved In Yellow Budgie

Featured Replies

I have just had a visit from a show breeder ( and mother to a schoolfriend from way back ), that specialises in fallows. She actually came especially to see my young budgie baby from Swift and Rocket...the one with red eyes and yellow body with green on its rump, also with cinnamon spangle markings on its wings.

End diagnosis is this baby is a light green spangle fallow and that the spangle and a recessive pied gene involved has made recognising this bird instantly as a fallow very difficult. But that is the end result.....and here are the latest photos

P.S. if it doesn't show here, the eyes are still a bright red and not a plum.

whoo hoo, finally.

Shes looking real nice too. So did the lady say how she came to be a fallow?? I can't remeber what her parents were.

I am not a full bottle on genetics but I think fallow is a recessive gene ( someone correct me if I am wrong here ). Her parents are AXX042.jpg

Makes total sense check out the description and the picture of the fallow very similar to yours on the rump. http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_colors.html#fallow

Correct both parents as Bubbles said need to carry the fallow gene to produce a fallow.

Thanks for that link Lovey....looks a lot the same. The spangle gene is what is making the markings less pronounced. Like this one http://www.geocities.com/fallowbudgies/fall613.jpg

That spangle gene can really make for some interesting combo and markings.

I don't think budgies have finished surprising us with new changes in their gene pool....and new types of budgies. Red ones next ?! :P

White faced green would be gorgeous!!

great to hear Karen :) Sounds like a great breeder you have found there. Is she part of the same club you are joining??

This lovely lady is a part of the Rare Budgie Club (BRASEA) and lives in Geraldton (300 miles away) but she breeds some budgies for other show breeders too. I get to see her on the occasional trip up there to see my Dad. She has fully recommended the club I am joining tomorrow night. :)
