Posted October 18, 200420 yr Hello, this is my first clutch of baby budgies. The last chick to hatch is not being fed ,its crop never looks like it has food in there.I was able to get some food in just enough to see the crop puff.I'm going to feed the chick every 2 hours. So I was wondering how much should I feed every 2 hours? I am hoping when the chick gets a bit stronger the mama and papa take over! Thanks!
October 18, 200420 yr Oh gezzzzz,I'm all scared with this sour crop now! Everyone send good vibes to my baby chick please!
October 19, 200420 yr Does the baby have sour crop, or are you just worried he will get it? Are you sure he's not being fed at all? **sending healing vibes just in case**
October 19, 200420 yr I don't feel they are taking care of the chick, just before I fed him and hour ago,he was on the other side of the nesting box alone and cold.As well, the father was picking at the baby earlier. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with this chick, also the older 2 are alot larger than this lil one. When I was looking at the crop,it never looked full like the others did at this age.I have been holding this one alot, keeping it warm.
October 19, 200420 yr Oop sorry, forgot to answer your first question.I don't think the chick has sour crop,I'm just nervous I may cause it. Edited October 19, 200420 yr by Shera
October 19, 200420 yr ghah I don?t remember much about sour crop but I thought it was something the parents got from regurating (sp?) a lot??? okay well about the little lad I would just feed him until his crop looks full. He will look very small compared to the others for a while yet, my youngest one (fourth) still looks 1/4 of the size of his eldest brother. What do you mean "picking at the baby"? Was he hurting it or just trying to move he or check him over? I'm not at all sure about keeping him warm, are you putting him back in the box after been feed? The parents might take over after a while if they are feeding others I think you have a better chance at that than others.
October 19, 200420 yr Yes,I am putting him back in the box after she is fed,if she warm...hehehe I lay her with the other chicks and they suggle. About the picking, after I think about it,the father could have been checking her over.Hoping! thanks for your reply. Edited October 19, 200420 yr by Shera
