Help! My Budgie Keeps Laying Eggs!

I am a first time budgie breeder and until last week, everything was fine. I bought my two caged budgies an outdoor aviary with a nesting box and they bred straight away. Five babies hatched and everything was fantastic. The babies were five weeks old and starting to come out of the nest. Then disaster struck! My male budgie got a fright as I was putting something in the cage and fluttered around and out the door! He flew away and was recovered dead in the neighbourhood. Three babies have left the nest but two remain and the female has begun laying more eggs. I don't know what to do. Is this because the male budgie has gone or what? Please help if you can I would be very grateful.

The Cock could have fertilised the Hen before he got out. You will need to candle the eggs after days to see if they are fertile. Then decide if you want to let the hen hatch them and care for them alone.

What is the age of the youngest chick. If it is past 6 weeks he should be able to look after him/her self.

Thanks for your advice, there is now only 1 chick left in the nest and it is about 5 weeks old, the last one hatched. Can the hen feed herself while she is sitting on the eggs? Would she be distressed if I took them away?

She will not worry or stress over the loss of the eggs, she will continue to lay while the box is there. Just latly I had a single mother bird with fostered babies lay eggs again with no contact to a partner for two months.
