Breeding Tips Please

Hi, well I have 2 budgies that I am eventually hoping to breed, at the moment they are only 6 months old (to young for breeding) so I thought I would start now by asking if anyone can give me any information on breeding what to expect all that sort of stuff, or point me in the right direction to find out as much information as I can on breeding, I would like to do all the right research and stuff before the time comes?

thanks

You are in the right place my friend! There is more information here than I have found anywhere else and more friendly people who are willing to help.

Thanks shellball, I would really appreciated any information anyone could give me

I would go to the library and get books or buy some I know that the breeders on this site can direct you to some good books.

Start getting the supplies on what you will need, along with a plan in case you have to hand rear any of the babies that is a high possibilities with new parents.

Read and ask questions on all the breeding information and questions here that people ask.

You have at least six months to wait before your budgies should be breeding, so plenty of time to accumulate some knowledge and a plan that works for both budgies and yourself. Research is key.

Do you have a plan for the babies? Are you keeping them or selling them? If you are selling them do you have a plan to screen your potential buyers? Will you take them back if the buyer can't keep them? Things to think about.

Why do you want to breed? To add to your flock? for enjoyment? get into serious breeding at one point? etc...

You don't have to answer these questions on the boards just putting out there questions for thought. There is alot to breeding as anyone of our serious breeders on these boards can tell you.

I would also join a bird club in your area, make sure you find a good avian vet now in case there are any issues, see if there is a breeders club or others you can network in your area.

Thanks for your fast reply's, as bubbles said I have atleast 6 months before my budgies are ready for breeding at the moment I am really interested in doing the research on the subject, I will make the final decision as to if I will breed or not when I have done all the research, I don't want to be flying into it blind, thats why I posted the question, and I figure 6 months or more will give me plenty of time to find out alot ALOT of information. pointing me in the right direction would be helpful

thanks

No better place than this forum to find out stuff. And no questions are seen as too silly. We all had to start somewhere. You can find out a lot just by cruising through the search function on here into breeding and also reading up on previous topics as well as asking new questions.
