March 9, 200718 yr Author Well thats the councils in Australia for you. If you co-operate anything is possible. I hope it goes through as it would be a problem if it doesn't.
March 9, 200718 yr I would be sending the bill to the neighbour who had to have a whinge. I seriously would!
March 10, 200718 yr Author Well we will see what happens.. Here is some shots of the chicks. These are last years. Here are two of this years. Edited March 10, 200718 yr by Daz
March 10, 200718 yr :ausb: What beautiful budgies you have! Glad that the aviary has sortof been approved.
March 21, 200718 yr Author Well I am Just about complete inside the Aviary. I still have a few things to do out side. How's it looking so far? I have also updated My Website. Breeding Season has already started and I am about a month behind, but I am not in any hurray. The birds come first. I'll start to pair up at the end of next week.
March 21, 200718 yr (Laughing out loud) you get the permit for the bird but not the place to house them :offtopic: now that is what I call smart. The aviary is looking super. Good luck with the pairing, I haven't starting any yet either, I was hoping to covert the garden shed before setting up any pairs. I got the info for my local council and the placement of my cage is... well breaking the rules. I can have up to 50 birds (wow) but the cage is meant to be 15m away from the neighbors houses and 2 m from the fence line. :dbb1: Let me just say to match those rules I would have to put the cage on top of my house :(Laughing out loud): I've had them there for ?? over a year? something like that and no one has complained, so if i keep the number to around what they are now I think I'll be fine.
March 21, 200718 yr Author LOL you get the permit for the bird but not the place to house them :dbb1: now that is what I call smart. Oh up date on the council. They have give writen permission for the position of the aviary. Now all I need is for the Certifiers to agree that the construction meets with the building code. I think. :ausb: I'll keep you up to date. The aviary is looking super. Nerwen might be a good time to meet the neighbours. Talk to them about any problems, if any, that way you will know for sure. I had my aviary for 20 months before one neighbour complained. I wish I had spoken to them sooner. :offtopic:
March 21, 200718 yr I looked up my council rules and it says that I can have up to 12 birds without a permit.Aviary must be 1 metre away from fence and 10 metresaway from neighbours. Its in the wrong position but neighbours closest don't mind and he has cockatiels himself.I can get another budgie as I only have eleven....... (Laughing out loud)
March 29, 200718 yr Author The issues with the aviary is not over yet.. a call from the council this afternoon. I might still have "Issues" with the position of the aviary in regard to a sewer that runs through the back of my yard. The person that can grant the permission does'nt want to make the call on his own and has refered the situation to the Water Board. Cross fingers it goes well with them.
April 8, 200718 yr Author Update: Council as approved the position of the aviary inregard to the sewer. Now I think it's up to the certifiers.
April 8, 200718 yr Update: Council as approved the position of the aviary inregard to the sewer. Now I think it's up to the certifiers. Thank goodness for that. Its a bit hard shifting an aviary with the slab as well
April 9, 200718 yr I can't believe this is still going on Daz.Well actually I can,so much red tape hey. What do they want you to do lift the cement and aviary. Hope it all goes well and its over soon.
May 30, 200718 yr what are those? did you come up with a way to dispense water from a regular water bottle? good luck with getting everything passed!
May 30, 200718 yr what are those? did you come up with a way to dispense water from a regular water bottle? good luck with getting everything passed! Sue, those are readily available drinkers you can buy from just about any petstore. You just add the bottle...it screws in.
May 30, 200718 yr uwah?? really? i've never seen them before! how does water come out without it all flooding out?
May 30, 200718 yr uwah?? really? i've never seen them before! how does water come out without it all flooding out? The only way the water would come out was if there was a hole in the bottle. Its to do with water levels. It only releases water as the level of the water drops.
May 30, 200718 yr how does water come out without it all flooding out? atmospheric pressure. The weight of the air pushing down is greater than the force the water can exert coming out. The bottle top is higher than the bowl and it stops coming out once the level in the bowl is equal with the bottle top. Feathers. Edited May 31, 200718 yr by feathers
May 31, 200718 yr Author I am going to replace the pavers for a little metal stand, the type you put pot plants on. It's just to try and keep the seed out of the water. Some hang them up but have problems when the birds fly into them.
May 31, 200718 yr Author Well I realised today that the aviary is basically up and running. I have four chicks in the nursary, 7 breeding boxes ocupied with chicks in 6 of them. The flights have the birds and there are 3 birds in the culling cage. Every day there is something new or at least something to do. I am hoping to surprise everyone soon. As some know I have melinistic spangles. Well I have now 6 chicks from a Melanistic to melanistic pairing. I am hoping for a DF Melanistic Spangle. A very beautiful bird. In the blue series it have skyblue/cobalt/mauve body colouring and pure white wings. Green series has lt green/green/olive body with pure yellow wings. Melanistic pairs is the same as normal pairings. 25% normals, 50% SF melanistic and 25% DF melanistic. Edited May 31, 200718 yr by Daz
