New Avairy

Thanks Splat ;)

I have usually breed 120 to 140 per year but last year i only bred 30.

I have just gone through all my birds and found i'm down 20 due to bad book keeping.

I now have 7 pairs down 6 of which are for DECs.

4 are Rec Pieds to DEC and the other 2 are DEC to split recs. The DEC to Split get better quality DEC but the DEC to RECs give higher numbers.

I want to get the Domies and Spangle down soon but the it's up to the birds not me.

For those that want to breed good quality birds, let the hen tell you when they are ready.

You will do better to pair hens that are ready to go with cocks that are the same rather than pairing the birds when you want them to be paired.

Wow Daz, just sat and read your aviary journey. (hubby at bowls) awesome job, the rest of us can but dream of a set up like that, congratulations on your major effort and good luck with your birds from here on in.

Wow!!! I love your work Daz!!! When I grow up, and have enough money, I'm gonna send you to perth and drive you up to dongara with me to get some of my Nan and Pops sheds done into awesome bird rooms like yours (although they'll be a lot bigger as they're the type that tractors go into) Maybe even a double decker XD

In short, I LOVE AND ENVY YOUR WORK <3

It's been over a year since I've visited this post. I haven't bred an birds this year.

Been too Busy. But now have the urge to get it cleaned up and have bred a few over Christmas.

Everyone seems to be M.I.A. Daz, good luck with you new breeding rounds.

Thanks Robyn. Yes is see that it's been quiet on here.

Good Luck Daz. IS there a type you are aiming for? From memory you liked spangles and recessive pieds.

Going to pair the dark eyes Nerwen. I have a love of them. I accidently paired a DF Spangle to a recessive so all the offspring were Spangle/rec. Going to pair these to the dark eyes to see if I can improve the breed.

sounds like a plan - hope it works out, you should show us the pairs and outcomes.

DEC and REC? I know I'll go 'Duh' when you tell me, but can't think what that stands for at the moment.

I started reading this thread about your new aviary the other night, and got through to where you were building the flights. I was GREEN with envy. Then I got the news that my breeding might be over and decided I didn't need something like that. Today I found out that it's probably just on hold for 6 - 12 months. (Read my thread on Twitter for why that is.) So, now I'm back drooling over your aviary.

For several years I've wanted to create a 'folly.' I saw it on the Home and Garden channel once. It was a shed that was modified to look almost like a kids play house, with a small deck, pretty windows. It was going to be a place for my crafts, but I've given them up. Now I would love to have something like that for my birds. Maybe if my boyfriend and I someday get married and we move to Tennessee, I'll realize my dream.

DEC - Dark Eye Clears

REC - Recessive pied

I'm jealous of this aviary set up too - which I could get something like this. I do have a garden shed hardly used but when mentioned using it for budgies Hubby wasn't impressed lol. As it is it only stores my cages and an unused mower.

Just caught up again Daz. (Thanks to J.B's. post) did you achieve what you wanted with Melinistic Spangles? If so could you post any pics you have.

Somebody had one on their avatar I think, violet with pure white wings. I only have pets but would love some like that. Just wondered how you went.

This is the End of the Topic and the Aviary.

All the birds are gone. The Aviary will be striped back to a plan shed and converted into a Work/Storage Shed for my camping gear.

It's been 8 years from the time I started till now. Been good times (Mostly)

Thanks Everyone that has Enjoyed My postings.

In the words of M>A>S>H>

Goodbye, Farewell and Amen

Bye Daz, Sorry your giving up the buds, several others who were on, when I started, also seem to have gone as well . :(
