I just went in to check on my babies and was really sad to see the 3rd baby wasn't moving. It was 10 days old and had died in the few hours since I last checked in on them but I don't understand why. They all looked fine earlier this morning.

 

Paris is a tired but good mum and feeds them all regularly so it doesn't make sense. I've been a bit worried about the oldest chick (17 days old) stomping on the younger ones heads but it just looks like this baby went to sleep and never woke up.

 

 

I'm in tears and didn't know whether to post this as an ' in memorium ' or breeding issue, but I guess that I didn't really get to know the little guy as a pet yet and something's obviously gone wrong in the nestbox.

 

Its not fair.

Well... im even sader because my babies didnt hatch.So i had bad luck aswell but i think it was cold the best way is to leave it in the nesting box. sorry to hear

I'm sorry you lost this one I can't tell you why or how this one died It could have been stepped on.

I am sorry you lost this baby I don't know if its the photo or not, but there doesn't look to be food in its crop. Would that be right ? Some babies get missed out if they aren't as vigorous as other to get in there for their feed.

I thought the same thing Karen but I didn't say it because I wasn't sure.

I thought that might be the problem too. The picture isn't too clear because of the way it was lying when it died but I turned it over to have a look and it did have food in its crop, although not as much as I'd expect and not as much as the other babies.

 

Ah well, I've been keeping a very close eye on the remaining three and they're all very vocal and getting plenty of food, although the oldest is such a boisterious thing I still worry about the smallest one being trampled.
