Posted November 3, 200618 yr Went out to give the birds some apple this morning and one of Jnr Boss' babies was out of the nest box on the floor with most of it's head feathers plucked & missing alot of skin. I couldn't tell which parent did it as they both had clean faces so I removed the baby for clean up and handraising. Mum cleaned up the baby while I held it and stroked it's belly & beak. This is the little one getting some food which it wolfed down: Settling into it's bed: I think prognosis is good for survival as it has a strong set of lungs & plenty of energy. My mum has christened her/him Twerp. Edited November 3, 200618 yr by karen
November 3, 200618 yr Author Twerp is still doing fine this morning. Had it's first feed of the morning and seemed more interested in playing in the food than eating it. S/he is very adventuresome too, I opened the lid to check on him/her & walked into the kitchen to prepare it's food. I heard a scrabbling sound turned around and it had climbed out of the box and was perching on the edge! Needless to say I raced back in and locked the box so I could prepare breakfast. His/her eyes appear fine, I think the area just above is a bit swollen from the beating & this is making it squint. I'll keep up the updates.
November 4, 200618 yr Author Twerp is fading fast, I don't expect him/her to be alive in the morning. S/he has eaten hardly anything all day so I've resorted to syringe feeding. It appears that shock is setting in.
November 4, 200618 yr oh no karen i'm so sorry to hear this. Maybe (s)he'll rally round. My fingers are crossed ((hugs))
November 4, 200618 yr I'm sending positive thoughts too. My first ever budgie was rescued from his parents in this way and was the same colouring. We called him Beautiful.
November 4, 200618 yr Gee I hope Twerp pulls through. Will be thinking about the poor little mite and will check in the morning hopefully for some good news!
November 4, 200618 yr Author I'm almost afraid to go to bed. It's midnight now & s/he is still going. I just finished giving Twerp a feed which s/he did not want! I got about a third of a teaspoon of weetbix & Roudybush mixture down. If by some miracle this baby survives it's going to be really sooky I reckon.
November 5, 200618 yr Author Twerp made it through the night and seems to be rallying! S/he (think he at the mo) has had a few feeds today, we are just letting him take what he wants which is around 4 beakfulls - we are just offering it more often.
November 5, 200618 yr That's good news. We are all pulling for him poor baby. You are doing a great job
November 5, 200618 yr Author I got some advice from a friend on a parrot forum who suggested I offer Twerp some Spark. Boy did it make a difference!! The little 'twerp' just won't stay in his box!! I was peeling potatoes for dinner & Boris was going bonkers so I looked into the lounge room & here was Twerp standing on the sofa!! S/he escaped!!! Gotta love that Spark! :(Laughing out loud): Edited November 5, 200618 yr by karen
