How Does The Recessive Gene Work?

Featured Replies

okay so if i was to pair a yellow/green recessive pied with a white and blue recessive pied what happens?

(this is for learning not actually breeding them)

the recessive gene is a gene that is not dominant or expressed visually unless there are 2 of the same gene

The green gene is dominant over the blue gene

So you would get 100% recessive pied and they would all be green unless both of the birds where carrying the blue gene and then you would have a chance of 25% of getting a blue based bird.

okay well, in my flock i have 7 sibilings 3 are blue recessive 3 are green recessive and then theres milo all from same clutch, so what does that tell me?

It helps to know the parents as well.

From what i can gather from that either one parent was recessive and the other carried the gene or both parents carried the gene. One would be green carrying the blue gene while the other was blue.
