The Administration and Moderators of this forum wish to acknowldge that there are some members interested in Show Birds and there keeping.

We also acknowledge that people are happy with keeping pet budgerigars.

We are interested in knowing if we should increase this section for those more interested in the keeping, breeding and preparation for show of Show Budgerigars.

I would like to see information about the standards, about what to look for in chicks that may be show winners. I would like to see information about breeding setups, and especially about keeping records. You know, like what information is necessary, and what is just good to have. I would like to know what breeders do to enhance a line, and what they do to decrease defects. There have been many posts thrown out there lately that tell me little is known and a lot is guessed. I would like to find out about the hobby, good aspects and bad. Otherwise, how can I help improve it?

I didn't vote because there was no option for people who aren't interested generally but don't think of it as cruel breeding of mutated animals.

I am always keen to learn more about our feathered friends, even though I have no plans to enter the show ring myself!

Sorry Bea  I didn't think of that one at the time. But i'll make a note of your thoughts.

Maybe add a neutral option for others with the same feelings?

I am interested in the subject and wish to hear about it. I am not sure if I would also personally go in that direction myself. But I do have some show type budgies and I am impressed with their looks. I am less impressed with the health and stamina of some of them, but I haven't bred these ones and some I don't know the history of. I have not formed an opinion on that topic yet. I am open to learning, let me put it that way. One thing that does impress me about show breeders is their meticulous attention in the direction of good sound record keeping....recording the geneology of their birds.....and that would put most backyard breeders or "bird farmers" to shame.

It seems that there is some support for this Information.

yep I reckon you're lucky you don't live closer to me cos I'd be around there annoying the c.... out of you with my questions!! :D:P

I need to change my vote. :D Cos I voted "Yes, but I don't want to show my budgies" and now I have changed my mind :P A show breeder was just here and said I had at least 8-10 very good budgies that would help me start a breeding program for show budgies with new normals for outcrossing and a club membership. I am joining a budgie club Wednesday night.

I would love to learn more about these fabulous birds. I'm not interested in showing...yet. But my thought is that it never hurts to try to improve your flock. I would like to look at what characteristics are good and which are weaknesses that I should not continue to breed. Also more on genetics (you might need to keep beating me over the head with this info until it sinks in!!!) :D:P I am very keen to learn. I also agree with Rainbows request for info on records etc.

:) Bubbles.. Make sure you fill us in on all the evenings uh entertainment :D

Daz i think its a great idea, I dont have an interest in showing birds but still find it all very informative :D
