Posted October 31, 200618 yr He is my newest house budgie (yes! my father finally allowed 2 budgies inside!). I'll tell you the whole story. I've seen an ad on Petlink for quite sometime for show quality budgies for sale, I have been preoccupied with my other parrot purchases lately that I didn't give it much thought. When I was looking in the aviary to see who was pairing up I noticed I was at least 6 Budgie hens short. Next time saw the ad I responded and on Sunday I went for a look hoping to by up to 5 or 6 (maybe 7). I came home with 14!!!! One I came home with was the lady's personal pet Chirpy. She was very happy for him to go home with someone who'd love him the same way she has and to give him the free flight time & human contact he was used to. I promised that would happen. My mother convinced my father who said "he can stay if it's okay with Boris". We need'nt have worried, soon as I put him in her cage she went straight up to him & did everything except offer herself to him! :hap: Do not be concerned, I saw the set up and the birds were in beautiful condition. The unwell bird was more than the quarantine standard of 4 metres away from the others. So I had no worries about introducing Chirpy to Boris straight away. My mother did a very special thing too. She adopted a bird from the lady. The budgie hen was hatched with both legs splayed. The lady was a novice at that stage and couldn't correct it so raised it like any other budgie. The hen is not used to any special treatment so will be going into the aviary with the others. She manages to lay on the perches and can climb. Mum has named her Opal. Chirpy: Boris loves him already: Boris has taken it upon herself to feed him when they are out of the cage: This is Opal, it's how she 'sits' on a perch: I'll post the pics of the other birds in the Mutation section to help with identification - I was told what they were but these things go in one ear and out the other if they aren't written down.
October 31, 200618 yr I thought Boris went out to the aviary. :hap: Anyway, (Laughing out loud), obviously she's inside now and she looks very happy with her new buddy there. Opal looks like a lovely bird too!
October 31, 200618 yr Author She did but she got into a fight & had a very bloody toe so I brought her inside to nurse her back to health. My family was so happy to have her inside again & this time so was Boris so here she has stayed. :hap:
October 31, 200618 yr Aww they are beautiful! Chirpy looks so sweet! But why would the lady give away or sell her pet budgie :hap: Opal is so pretty!!!
October 31, 200618 yr Author The lady had a choice none of us ever wish to have to make. Her husbands health or her birds. You see he's developed 'Breeders Lung' and can't be around birds anymore. :hap:
November 1, 200618 yr Glad Boris made it back into the house and she and Chirpy get along. Looks like pretty little Opal makes out okay.
November 1, 200618 yr Chirpy is a fine looking bird, and I love the colours of Opal. She seems to handling her problem okay Cindy
