pastel - first i couldnt get her to come to me...

okay well as many of you know, my hen pastel has recently been sick. she was separated and all that, and the cage is really small, so i would let her out quite often in her separate room.

she has now become very attatched to me (more to me than chiisai) and now she constantly follows me aournd my room (where the cage is) and she'll even willingly leave the play area which includes her small cage (still there so she can eat without chiisai trying to 'help' her), the big cage, the bird basket, and the ladders that connect them all.

she will chirp incessantly for me, and hop up on my dresser to look for me. if i disappear into the bathroom, she goes nuts.

dont get me wrong, im glad that she loves me now, but she needs to learn that i cannot be with her all the time. what gets me is that she has a budgie friend, but apparently he's not good enough for her?

what do i do about this? if i lock her in the cage, she turns flips around the perch (which is acutally quite comical), and it makes me feel bad to lock her in all the time, but you can imagine how hard it is to do homework with a budgie on your head, affectionately preening my hair (usually pulling it out, but that's okay, i love her anyway!)

thannks for your help, and sorry its so long!

That is so sweet. If it were me, I'd let her stay out. Crumple up a small piece of paper and let her push it around or something to keep her occupied. Or if you have those lattice balls with the bells in that are hooked together, take one of them off and let her play with it. Do you let Chiisai out with her yet? If not, once he comes back in the picture I'm sure she will pay more attention to him. Enjoy it while you can!

oh no, believe me, as long as im home, they are both out, with the cage door open. they are still both pretty cage bound - pastel kinda goes nuts if i take her downstairs where she cant see the cage.

thats what i thought was weird - even the chiisai's out, she still follows me around

he doesnt act too upset about it, though!

Mine tend to stay in the same room with the cage too. But that's fine with me, at least I know they can't get into any trouble in there...except I had to take down all the pictures because they were eating the wooden frames...

Do yours stay in the cage even with the door open, or do they sit on top?

usually in the cage, as the top is pretty high and they havent discovered it yet.

yes its good cos i always know where they are.

pastel is beginning to leave it more and more, though, wandering around looking for her 'mum'

i had another one that was a wanderer, too. after my budgie peanut died, zazu would roam the house calling for him. zazu and sapphire were a pair, and peanut was adopted later and treated like the baby (ie SPOILED ROTTEN)

aww well i would enjoy have my budgies flying to me so i didn't have to get up to get them, and i would show them the top of the cage because that is the point where we can actually get ben onto our finger and budgie love high places so they would enjoy it up there.

I have this with Pip, because I've had her the longest, she isn't sure of the other birds, and so she will walk around everywhere. That's another thing, she's determined to walk everywhere, It's like she hasn't got wings

oh gosh i miss pastel so much! :(

Big hugs oscarchik

*HUGS* i still miss my little man. The pain will slowly ease, but we will always remember them with a smile. They will live on our hearts forever and no one can take that away.
