He is really improving heaps now, he is standing on his foot and gripping onto the perch a bit. I think he will regain full use of his leg again

That is wonderful news. You have been so diligent throughout everything. I'm very glad he is mending well and perking up.

Another update.... I have rearranged his collar so he can get around easier, he is using his foot heaps now, still trying to chew his bandage at any possible moment, but he can't reach it...

I took this cute but funny picture today and had to share it with you!! You can see he is standing on it and gripping!! :P

:D:P:)

I can't help but laugh when i see that!

:) Bobby looks like he is ready to take on the world, I knew he would be much happier with the collar this way rather than inverted. Glad to see he isn't favouring his foot too much so it must not be hurting him. :)

OMG Reibe :hap: he is super cute LOVE you to bits Bobby!!!!!

The splint is off again :)

With one week to go before his is supposed to have it removed, should I put him through the trauma of another vet visit and anaesthetic and splint, or keep him contained so he doesn't aggrevate it anymore?? Bear in mind the avian vet doesn't work today (it is Monday morning her)

Edited by Riebie

I'd ring the vet in the morning to see what to do. I don't know what cage he's in now but i would put him in your small cage so he can't move around too much. Hope he's okay!

Thanks Bea - good idea.. I have just gone to work now and won't be home til 5pm :)

I was watching him frantically preen this morning and he was scratching himself with that leg and also standing on it to scratch with the other one, he also streched it behind himself under his wing.... but as soon as I get home I will put him in the small cage :)

If he can stand on the broken leg maybe it's basically better now and he wont need the splint back on! :)

I agree just ring the vet keep him contained and see what they say when then get in :) Bobby Bobby!! giving your mom grey hairs.

He better not!! :)

Riebie,

I have just read all the way through this thread. What a cheeky little thing, Bobby is. Sounds like you have been more traumatised by this whole journey than he has. I am so pleased that he has come through it so well.

Thanks Feathers!!

He is a cheeky lil thing - but thats what I love most about him!

:ausb: I would think that it would take longer than that for the bones to reunite but I am glad Bobby is such a trooper! Love him. :dbb1:

Well the splint was due to come off next Tuesday anyway, I called the vets and he was reluctant to put another one on him, and he is standing on it, climbing around his cage, scratching with it and using it like a typical foot.... the vet said not to re-splint it, but to leave him in his cage for a week so he doesn't add extra stress to it.... Bobby is extremely happy to be without his splint and collar, and had a mega-preening session the instant it was removed! :dbb1:

:dbb1: Yay Bobby, it really doesn't matter if the bones are a fraction off if he is a happy guy. :ausb:

That's great that he doesn't have to get a splint put back on! I bet he's over the moon! :dbb1:

:D Glad that Bobby is back to normal. :P
