October 31, 200618 yr I'm glad he's fine! I bet he looks funny with a little split on! Give him 2 kisses from me now for being a good boy at the vets.
October 31, 200618 yr Author Well Bobby is back home from the vets and not a happy little boy He is confused and disorientated and he looks so sad... Here is some pics with his splint The doc said that if he chews on his bandage then the will have to get a collar, so what does he do....... Since the vet was closed, I decided to make a temporary collar for him tonight, then tomorrow I will get a proper one... Does he look impressed?? At least it is keeping his attention away from his bandage... He even manages a cute pose through all of this
October 31, 200618 yr Poor little guy. He doesn't look like a happy boy - how long does the splint have to stay on?
October 31, 200618 yr *hugs* He'll adapt to having it on, he'll be getting around happily with it on in no time. Poor little baby. Is he still separated or is he with the others? What do they think of his new leg warmer.
October 31, 200618 yr Author He is being kept away from the other birds, I am worried they will pick on him about his funny "legwarmer" hehe :hap:
October 31, 200618 yr awe Riebe I love the temporary collar that is great :hap: as Bea said he will be okay and adapt you must keep us udpated on our little man
November 1, 200618 yr Good job on the collar Riebie, my Phoebe would have it torn to shreds within an hour (her collar is made of a type of plastic used on space ships). Bobby, I am sure the next 4 weeks will fly by and you will be doing all the things you used to.
November 1, 200618 yr Author Well the collar didn't work... I came home from work today and the collar was still on, but the splint was off.....
November 2, 200618 yr Author Yup - another splint and a collar as well - the vet is great though, not charging me for another consultation, just the sleeping potion and another splint... I can't imagine how bad it would have hurt him, he pulled the whole thing off
November 2, 200618 yr What a little terror ! I thought your temporary collar was a brilliant idea. Bobby certainly is a determined little beastie isn't he ?! Here's hoping for a full recovery
November 2, 200618 yr Author Splint and collar pics, round 2... hehe How long will this one last? His collar isn't really doing its job, he can still chew his bandage... The vet said he put on twice as much bandage as last time And some close ups
November 2, 200618 yr I reckon....any bird that can fully swivel its head 180 degrees to rest its face on its shoulderblades or wings can chew off any bandage the vet has put on Let's hope it heals in spite of Bobby Maybe the bandage should have gone on his beak ????? Just in case....you may need this thanks to Maureena http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....wtopic=8379&hl= Edited November 2, 200618 yr by Bubbles
November 2, 200618 yr Author Bandage on his beak Thanks for the link to the collar - I think I will be making one of them tomorrow! That is brilliant, and looks much more effective than the one he has now!!! Thank you to Maureena too!! :ausb: Edited November 2, 200618 yr by Riebie
November 2, 200618 yr Author So far, he isn't chewing it nearly as much, I think he is getting used to it. This new collar isn't really keeping him away from it when he wants to have a little chew... Edited November 2, 200618 yr by Riebie
November 3, 200618 yr :hap: Leave it alone Bobby dear! You really need a good stiff plastic collar (believe me, I have tried them all with my plucker Phoebe).
November 4, 200618 yr I guess we can't compare lovebirds to budgies but I am an expert on collars having gone through many with my Phoebe. All I can say, for her, is that the inverted collars were the WORST, it drove her more crazy than usual, that's for sure. Try and get some hard plastic until Bobby can get back to the vet.
